Put the mark that corresponds to the star rating of the hotel. That is 2. It corresponds to its 2 stars - the hotel is very simple, standard rooms and studios are approximately 9-10 sq. m. For breakfast they gave bread, margarine, jam, boiled eggs, tea, coffee. Cleaned every 3-4 days and not very hard. And around the hotel was also not cleaned.
Our windows overlooked the highway - this is just awful, so if you are lucky enough to visit there (they say that the hotel is open for the last season - summer 2010), then demand a window to the pool, which, by the way, by the time of our arrival, and departure, not prepared: there were only 2 families, including ours, and water is expensive in Crete.
Directly from Malia, the hotel is 1-2 km away, you can walk in 10-15 minutes. Or by bus: they run frequently, every 30 minutes, for example, only the Malia-Heraklion bus. Fortunately, the stop is nearby, right under your nose. I won’t name the exact cost, you can roughly calculate: the ticket price clearly depends on the mileage - it’s 34 km to Heraklion, and the ticket costs 3.7 euros. That is, about 10 cents every km (I think so).

If the main thing for you is to visit Crete and spend all your money on cafes, take a walk, ride, etc. , and the place of residence does not really matter, then this is a good option.
