Let me start by saying that I often vacation in three-star hotels in Spain, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and India, and it's hard to surprise me. But this one is a complete shock.
There's no proper city beach, just a stub of land covered in trash, with other people's clothes lying around since the start of the season, bottles, and dried-up wet wipes flying into your face while sunbathing. This stub of land is located under a concrete wall, unplastered and unpainted, although they might have at least daubed it with Greek-style graffiti. The resorts of Berdyansk were much cooler as a child. The hotel positions itself as a budget option, but for the same money in Spain, I could have gotten indescribably beautiful nature, a clean, wide beach, good food with unlimited seafood, jamon, and all kinds of meat, but the only thing is, no drinks. This hotel also doesn't leave water in the room; we buy it at the supermarket. Air conditioning, a fan, and a safe are also required. The coffee is terrible. The breakfasts are horribly meager, worse than at hotels on bus tours around Europe. Lunch and dinner are filling, and the food isn't bad, like in a school cafeteria. There's no fruit, and the only dessert is a piece of cake at lunch and dinner. One time, they gave us three mini-sized pieces of watermelon in a bowl. You can get extra food at lunch and in the evening. If you're nostalgic for the worst of Black Sea resorts, this is the place for you. There's no area for evening strolls, souvenirs, supermarkets, or bars, no fountains, no pretty promenade, and the rooms overlook the road, making it noisy all night long. There are trash containers piled up against the wall, and the trash boils and flows across the hot asphalt, creating an indescribable aroma. Either locals or huge families of immigrants, like gypsies, hang out in the bushes under the hotels. I ruined my and my child's vacation, so I'm writing this review to warn you. The sea water itself is perfect in terms of temperature and cleanliness, but I wish I'd swum in this sea from the Turkish side. The hotel staff is incredibly friendly and helpful; it's the first time I've encountered such a smiling and courteous staff; apparently, the hotel's concept emphasizes this alone. The excursions are all very basic and expensive, without food or water or with meager snacks. The swims to some unsightly bays, or if there are more interesting ones, they're in another part of Crete and a four-hour bus ride each way. The much-vaunted excursion to Santorini costs 170 euros per person, also without meals. They promise a boat trip, but instead, they take you on a huge ferry with a crowd, so you can't see any photos or views while you're on the boat. This is the worst place to vacation for the money, in my experience. I'm on an all-inclusive package, so I can get drinks by the rooftop pool from 10:00 a. m. to 10:00 p. m. , but the pool is overcrowded with families with children and Europeans who don't go to the sea and drink alcohol all day. Before the trip, I read that there's an old street in the mountains within walking distance, but in reality, there's nothing ancient there, just modern taverns and souvenir shops. There's nothing even worth photographing.
