We rested there with my wife and daughter at the end of September 2011. The hotel is of course magnificent. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, we had a room with a terrace, part of the room was separated by a sliding door. The territory of the hotel is planned in such a way that when you walk around the territory it seems that the hotel is half full, and there are very few people in it. However, it is not. The whole atmosphere is simply conducive to relaxation. Calm and quiet. This is not Turkey with loud music and loud animators. Everything is very respectable and solid. The cleaning of the room takes place at the moment when we all had breakfast. There are no complaints about cleaning at all. The staff at the reception Russian-speaking girls are just sweethearts. Any whim wish does not go unnoticed. Our child had an earache, everything was organized within 30 minutes, the arrival of the doctor, the delivery of medicines, and without tension and additional stimulation. the territory of the hotel is large, 2 beaches, a huge swimming pool with sea water, tennis court, golf. But of course it's stupid to be in Crete and stay in a hotel. Personally, we rented a car for the entire vacation and drove to interesting places in Crete. We visited the beach of Vai, with palm trees, went to the island of lepers, on the way back we swam in the beautiful bay of Kolokytha (this is the name from the Garmin map). We visited the Palace of Knossos. And by the way the Cretan Aquarium is very close to the hotel. It is better to rent a car in Hersonissos, it is much cheaper there than in a hotel. We rented from Carera, Renault Clio cost 30 euros per day with full insurance including glass, wheels and food on dirt roads. However, if you go to Balos Bay, then you should take a four-wheel drive car.
The food at the hotel is excellent. For breakfast there is bacon, 3 types of fresh juices, well, in general, a lot of everything, everything is tasty and fresh. Our tour package included only breakfast, lunch and dinner for an extra charge, however, lunch is organized for children, which is included in the tour price. We had dinner a couple of times at the hotel, it was delicious, but as for me, such a dinner does not cost 120 euros for 2 adults with a child. In the same Hersonissos, which is 7-10 minutes away by car, an excellent dinner on the embankment will cost a maximum of 50 euros, and there you will also be treated to fruits, wine, and ice cream for free. Near the hotel is a village called Gouves. You can go there by leaving the hotel beach (jumping on stones. There is another exit, but for some reason it is very often closed. In the village you can also have dinner, sit and relax. There is also a supermarket where you can buy drinks and water. At the entrance to Hersonissos there is Spar supermarket, where many Russian-speaking vacationers shop, where drinks, including alcohol, are much cheaper than in Gouves and much cheaper than in a hotel.
In general, there is only one disadvantage of otleya, although this is probably also its dignity - everything is quite expensive. Two glasses of Heineken beer cost 11 euros and a milkshake for a child 9 euros. It's delicious, of course, but still. Therefore, I put the hotel 9 and not 10. Otherwise, our family personally has no complaints.
