on Crete by yourself with a mustache
My husband and I were at the Aldemar Village hotel in September 2009, and as the weather deteriorated (it got colder), on the advice of friends, we rented a car for three days and arrived in Agia Galini. 1.5 hours by car from Hersonissos. No belmes in English, we know 20-30 words, but the Greeks are trying to understand you, they are upset that they do not understand. And 5-10 words from a Greek phrasebook opened all the doors for us. Agia Galini "fishing village", and now a resort in the south of Crete, where the sea retains its warmth and serenity (relative to the northern coast) until mid-October. It's actually warmer on the South Coast. So in May we decided to go on our own to rest on the south coast. You can stay for 30-40 euros or more. There are many local small hotels, many rooms, apartments. The road, if you do not turn anywhere, will lead you directly to the central parking lot (one central road) on the shore of the bay. You can safely leave your car there. And have a bite to eat in restaurants that are right there overlooking the bay. We really liked it, especially since the restaurant on the second floor (the entrance is on the left, if you stand with your back to the sea) has a Bulgarian waiter (friends at the hotel suggested), who speaks and understands Russian decently. So my advice to you: If you chose a hotel, flew in, in the fall - don’t expect bad weather, or get tired of the hotel, take a car (Only non-promoted companies - they are expensive) from local companies are much cheaper than at the hotel or from branded ones. And go to the south coast to sunbathe and swim. Sunbeds are paid, an umbrella is 6 euros, but there are also "wild beaches". I also really liked the beach in FrancoKostelo (the food is not very, and it’s a bit far to go, but it’s worth it, beautiful gorges both to Plakias and to Francokastelo). And in Agia Galini, at the Onar restaurant, ask Yavor (he said he will be there for the 2010 and 2011 seasons), he will help you with the menu, the portions are large and really tasty (open from 12:00 noon), we took on advice and fresh from the window. If you take a special menu in the evening, the cost is about 10 euros without wine. If they offer a special fish soup (they say it’s very tasty), take it only for a large company of 5-6 people, we didn’t take it, since there are two of us and there’s a pot of soup together, we won’t be able to (I think it costs 40 euros, you can chip in) .
Crete, not to sit in a hotel. We liked it so much, we even came on our own again. To get a visa without problems, just carefully fill out the questionnaire - in the Greek center on the website all the information is there. Book a hotel - from the locals and go! I wish you good luck, courage and a pleasant stay!
