Planning a two-week summer vacation from July 19 to August 2, I wanted to go to Greece, because I was not there yet and my wife and I had an open Schengen multivisa. My wife wanted to go to Egypt, where we had been in April and November (in Hurghada).
Pegasus offered the lowest prices for Greece. We first booked for 14 days the hotel Petra Mare 4 * AI on the island. Crete near the city of Ierapetra, but the reservation was not confirmed.
On July 8, a budget offer for just 652 euros for 7 days for two with two meals a day appeared on the Pegasus website. Crete, in Hersonissos. After thinking for a minute and not even consulting with my wife, I decided to book.
Later I even saw offers for 553 euros for two.
For another 7 days we bought a ticket to Sharm el-Sheikh. They haven't been to Sharm yet and wanted to see if it's really hot in Egypt at the end of July.
I did not expect to see anything new in Egypt, but I read a little literature about Greece before the trip.

He made a printout from the Internet about the main "sights" of Crete (By the way, there is no analogue of this word in the Ukrainian language. I remember from school that the Sehensvurdichkeiten is translated from German as "sights of history, culture and art"). I threw a map of Crete in my mobile phone.
On July 17.2010, at about 9 o'clock, they arrived safely at the airport in Heraklion. The hotel was accommodated immediately, free of charge accommodated in a room overlooking the pool.
By the way, then we drove to the hotel Minos Imperial 5 *, so there all the people with suitcases lay on sofas at the reception and waited 14 hours to check in.
In our hotel, none of the staff spoke Russian, but the school English course is enough to communicate with the Greeks.
By noon we had already walked around the city, went to the tour desk, inquired about prices.
At noon, a guide from Pegasus, Tatiana, came to the hotel, where we bought excursions to the water park and Fr. Santorini.
She offered a free shuttle to the fur shops, which we agreed to. I think if we don't buy anything, we will at least see the city.
In the evening a young Greek man in a white jacket arrived and took us to three shops. The wife did not like anything in particular. Prices for fur coats 2-3 thousand euros. Although I think the price would be different if we went to the store without a "free transfer". The cheapest fur coat, which I more or less liked, cost 1.700 euros. We will probably go to the Emirates for a fur coat; .
On July 18 we went to the Water City water park. The cost through Pegasus is 30 euros per person. There were not enough seats in the double-decker bus that took us, some had to stop. The entrance to the water park costs 22 euros. That is, the transfer costs 8 euros. In principle, it is more profitable to buy a ticket from the operator, because it makes no sense to rent a car so that it stays in the parking lot all day.
When you go to the water park, for 6 euros you are given a Chinese padlock, which costs probably 2 euros, to the cell for clothes. In the end, when the castle is returned, 3 euros are returned. From time to time there were queues in the water park. There is a large free car park.

On July 19 we went on an excursion to Fr. Santorini (Fira Island). The cost to Pegasus is 120 euros + 12 euros transfer. Street agencies offered for 112 euros. It turns out allegedly 20 euros cheaper. He concluded that it was possible to take a tour not from the operator, it is not in Africa. Guide to Santorini representative of See Jet Tatiana Bragina - very nice, told a lot of interesting things. As he returned to the port on a steep serpentine, he said, "If you're scared, close your eyes, as our driver, Mr. Manolis, does. "
On July 20-22 they took the car and I planned the program of the day.
Since we did not have parking near the hotel, we went to the rental agency, which I went to the first day, and near which was fenced with a parking lot.
In Pegasus, car prices are about twice as high. I think they take cars from the same street agencies and multiply the price by two. But you will be told that you will not have full insurance on the street. After reading the information on the Internet, I demanded WUG insurance (which includes compensation for damage to mirrors, glass, car bottoms), but no one in Greece has heard of it, apparently only Russian-speaking Internet users know about it.
The car was given to me according to the Ukrainian driver's license, international rights were not required. On the A4 letter, the manager wrote down my name, address in Ukraine, hotel name and room number. If he wrote down his last name and first name, I wrote the address in Ukraine myself, I wrote down the name of the hotel only from my words.
No credit card or cash deposit was required. My wife and I chose the Opel Astra, 1.6, mechanics, convertible, on white leather, with a mileage of 20 thousand with full insurance, it cost us 210 euros in three days. I spent 84 euros on gasoline, drove 700 km. 1 liter of gasoline costs 1.6 euros. How much gasoline is in the tank when you take the car, with the same amount you have to hand over. The cheapest car Daewoo Matiz costs 25-30 euros per day, Suzuki-Swift on the machine - 35 euros, Mini-Cooper Convertible - 100 euros.
I visited the rental site in Ukraine, so the prices are higher than on the spot. So there is no need to book online.
I ask the manager: “Where is the technical passport? ». It turns out a simple form, filled in by hand, without a seal is enough.

Again, after reading the information on the Internet, he took a few photos of scratches on the car, the fuel sensor. When I came to hand over the car on the third day, the manager took the keys - and that's it!
Nobody checked the car for new damage or fuel. When I was surprised, the manager asked if there were any problems with the car, I said: "No", "Come again! »
Europe! I think such a business would fall apart. Probably the second or third customer would disassemble the car for spare parts.
There are a lot of policemen (according to them - trochonomos) on the roads. Roads of excellent quality, even in the mountains. There is no need to take a jeep. In the north Fr. Crete passes the New National Road, the road has two lanes and can go 200 km / h. I Opel accelerated to 140, no longer risked, still the car is rolled and it is not known when the thrust was checked there. As a rule, if there is a sign of 90, then no one goes more than 110. Everyone is tied up.
Trochonomos are usually at the end of long sections near large cities, with photo radar. At the intersection there was a solid and the limit of 50, the front car went overtaking, at this time the oncoming blinked, he returned, but he was stopped.
I don't know what was done to him; ). When he was returning from Wai Beach, he saw a policeman on a motorcycle in the mirror. In Opel, the roof was lowered, he looked at me and drove on, drove another car and stopped the next with his hand. I think that the child was driving without a child seat. I saw all the policemen on New National Road, I didn't see any in the mountains.
I read that there the policeman on the spot writes out the receipt and it is necessary to pay in tax inspection of that area where wrote out the penalty. If you pay within 2 weeks, you pay only half (bonus! ). Many on the net describe that receipts and money were rented out, where they took the car. I very much doubt that the hirelings paid those fines, although perhaps again this Slavic mentality gives reason to think so.
There is another interesting feature of Greek roads. You go 100 km / h.

on a two-lane road, you drive into a settlement, the road becomes so narrow that one car can barely squeeze through, you drive right under the doors of houses, and then again the normal road.
At first I thought I would have to rent a GPS-navigator. You can easily navigate the map that is given to you at the rental (on the other side of the water park advertisement). Indicators of both settlements and various monuments are available on the roads.
On July 20 we went on the route Hersonissos-Mohos-Lasithi Plateau (plain with windmills, Cave of Zeus) -Naples-Elounda (bought on the beach) -Hersonissos. Near the cave of Zeus (Dikteo Antro on the map) parking 3 euros. Prolonged ascent to the mountain: on foot or on donkeys and another 3 euros for entering the cave (it's cool there).
The car was left for the night in the rental parking lot (free of charge), which was closed at 10 pm and opened at 8:30 am.
On July 21 we went to Hersonissos-Voulismeni-Agios Nikolaos-Sitia-Monastery-Teplou-Vai Monastery.
Admission to the Teplou Monastery is 3 euros, and the museum has many books in the Old Slavonic language. Wai Beach is located near a palm grove, there is a paid and free parking to choose from, free changing rooms.
On July 22 we went to the other side of the island, to the south: Hersonissos-Castelli-Ierapetra-Agios Nikolaos-Hersonissos. In the south the beaches are completely different, gray pebbles. Taverns had lunch near Ierapetra. Bill 19 euros for two for a delicious lunch with fresh fruit. I have already paid, and the owner brings a tray of fruit: watermelon, melon, cherries, peaches - a gift. I didn't take money for it. Here is Greece, people are all smiling, nice, and not for "van dollar". And Orthodox.
July 23 in the same rental took an ATV for 30 euros a day. He refueled for 14 euros (petrol and oil). You don't have to get out of the car at gas stations in Greece, you just say petrol or diesel and so much money or how many liters.
On the quad I ran 70 kilometers.
First I traveled to Hersonissos, then went to Heraklion, from where to the Palace of Knossos, where a tour of the guide costs 40 euros. Entrance ticket costs 6 euros.

I had to leave tomorrow morning. Here's a little about Pegasus. We were not on the lists on the hotel wall. At 8 pm I write an SMS to the guide to inform about which departure. Then I call - there is no connection to your caller's phone. Although the guide said that if you need something, write an SMS. We go to the reception, they say in English that the fax did not come to us, they call Tatiana (here is her phone + (30.693 2.88 147), there is no radio communication. , from which we managed to find out that the bus should be in them at 5 o'clock. , although Tatiana said to wait at the reception) and stand for an hour looking at each bus.
You could sleep in a hotel and then say that no one took us, etc. , but tomorrow to Egypt.
They returned from Greece without delay, in Crete there are no signs of crisis or strikes.
They spent the night in Kyiv and were in Sharm el-Sheikh on July 25. We went from Turtez. In my personal rating of operators, I put the following: 1) Turtez, 2) Tez Tour, 3) Annex, 4) Pegasus.
