I want to share a review of my long-awaited vacation at the beginning of the summer of 2014. For a long time I was going to write a review, but I have only just now matured. I myself am from Ukraine, and as it usually happens, vacations in my case are always planned at the last moment (due to workload), and then there is the politically unstable situation in our country. In general, everything piled up at once, I wanted to get out and leave to relax, get distracted. The first thing they could offer me about the hotel is Pallini beach, good value for money. Placed an order for myself and 2 children, my husband stayed at home. The cost was a pleasant surprise, and I understand why, but more on that later.
When we arrived, the weather was not very bright, it was raining, and as it turned out, it rained here quite often. Without losing optimism, since we are already on vacation, we went to our booked hotel.

Upon arrival, the accompanying girl told us that we would be staying in another hotel, the hotel is also 4 * Athos Palace, and as the hotel guides later reported, we would be given an equivalent room. It was not pleasant that we were not informed yet in Ukraine that the Palini hotel was closed, apparently for technical reasons, but there were no other options. Before leaving, I read reviews about Palini Beach and knew what the downsides could be, but I didn’t know anything about Athos, except that they have one territory (not bad enough).
Arriving at the hotel, we immediately saw that it was far from new, well, this is not the main thing. We had an ordinary room with a view of the mountains, but as compensation for settling in another hotel, they settled us in a room with a sea view, provided a free safe in the room and treated us to fruit and wine.
Initially, there was some irritation over everything that was happening, but after checking into the room, after resting and calming down, we realized that we needed to catch a moment of relaxation)))
The food at the hotel is normal, no frills, but there is a choice, we didn’t go hungry. You can have lunch or dinner in local taverns, next to our hotel was the town of Kalithea and Afytos, where they prepared amazingly delicious seafood.
Since the weather failed, and throughout our stay, there was only 1-2 days of sunshine (out of 7 days) and we could not soak up the sun, sunbathe and swim, we decided not to waste time and travel on excursions. And it was the right decision, as we learned the whole history, saw many archaeological sites and excavations of ancient Macedonia. Most of all I liked the 2-day Athena-Meteora, it takes a long time to go there, but it's worth it. Guide Konstantin, who was with us, is a very interesting person and really an expert in his field. He spoke so that the time flew by!
Summing up, I want to say that for those who want to relax cheaply in terms of price and quality, you can safely go to Halkidiki in late April - early May, but do not rely on swimming in the sea, pool (there is no indoor one, but the one on the street - not heated), parties, a lot is still closed. I don’t know, maybe, of course, we were so unlucky with the weather. But in principle, we were satisfied with the rest, despite the initial mood!
