Corfu town, me and camera
When I slept well on vacation, I don’t really want to sit in a hotel, I’m drawn to adventures. I decided to take a walk around the hotel, met the representatives of the company, as always the girls look great: cheerful and cheerful. They asked me how I was doing and was everything okay? We talked about the rest, the island, the city, in the end, I decided to go on a sightseeing tour of the city of Corfu. Well, what about sitting?
On the bus we met our guide Irina, a wonderful woman who loves her job and is well-informed in everything. Although we have not been to every part of the city, it seems to me that we were able to learn about literally every street in its entirety.
First we visited the temple of St. Spyridon. To be honest, outwardly this temple can hardly surprise or impress with any special architecture. Ordinary building. I would even say, inconspicuous among all the houses and the abundance of retail shops. But when you go inside, you begin to be surprised, and not by external beauty, but by your own feelings. It really has a very relaxing atmosphere. We got there just when we were opening the shrine with the relics of Spyridon of Trimifuntsky. His body is under glass, but you can still see him very well, and his legs in red boots are open. When you approach the shrine, the priest asks your name and asks the Holy blessing for you. In general, I was delighted with visiting the temple, although I cannot say that I go to church too often at home and pay much attention to it.
After visiting the church of St. Spyridon, we had some free time to get to know the city better. Without thinking twice about what to do next, I decided to visit the old fortress, I really love antiquities. And I wanted to capture the city with my brand new camera. Having walked along the lower tiers of the fortress, I decided not to stop there, and while there was still time, to climb to the very top, where a small lighthouse rises. To be honest, I was out of breath… But it was worth it! . . The expanses of the Ionian Sea, which are framed by the mountains of mainland Greece, opened up before me. And the city, like a toy, can fit in the palm of your hand. Its streets are so narrow, as if it is impossible even to squeeze through. In the meantime, life is in full swing: the locals are working, their children are studying or are already returning home, and tourists are onlookers looking at the sights... I was one of them.
Yes, I completely forgot to mention another interesting attraction. In the city of Corfu, there is one such interesting street, which, as our guide told us, is an exact copy of the Parisian Rue de Rivoli. Of course, I was not in Paris, but I believed the words. The street is really very colorful, so to speak. Previously, only representatives of the nobility were allowed to walk on it. So, I walked around and felt like a prince of noble blood. The mood even improved. And it went up even more after I bought some local souvenirs. Kumquat is such a small orange that grows only in Corfu. I bought a liqueur from it and sweets. All this my friends and I tried on the very first day after my return. Liquor, as for me, is slightly sweet, but in principle, I think that it is not bad. One even its color already has - bright orange.
This is how free time ended in the capital of Corfu - the city of Kerkyra. I was running around with my camera all day like I was spellbound, so I didn’t even have time to really enjoy being here. But, looking at the clock, I woke up and ran to the bus! And then again a hotel and a good rest, but already on the beach with no less beautiful views and the warm Ionian Sea.
