Kos island. Hotel Princess of Kos. As well as the satellite of Kos, the island of Nisyros. This time, completely unpredictable, we (2 adults, 2 children 3.8 and 6.8) were brought to the Greek island of Kos. The decision to go, the opportunity to break away from worries and the availability of a suitable tour converged at one point. I was attracted by a relatively loyal price and the possibility of accommodating 2 + 2. Well, and, probably, the craving for the islands. The Transaero flight went completely without problems, took off almost on the clock, 3.5 hours and we are on Kos. Compared to previous flights of 8-10 hours, this one seemed like a cakewalk. When approaching, the Aegean Sea met unfriendly waves, a semi-stormy state, a gusty wind tore the seagulls from a calm gliding, forcing them to furiously work their wings. We passed the airport rather quickly, climbed into the bus and in 30 minutes we were in the Princesses of Kos. The hotel is located on the northern coast of the island, near the village of Matsuhari. The hotel proudly wears 4 stars, which is clearly a self-proclaimed declaration of its own greatness, well, the owner of the hotel wanted to have 4 stars, so he painted on the curtains in the bathroom, well, and somewhere else so that they would not immediately notice. All around it's a solid 3, Greek. We have been in triples, which are solid 5 compared to this hotel. True, not in Greece. Vapshche with this stardom, the devil himself will not understand, in all countries there are some kind of quirks and conventions. In my opinion, you can not bother yourself with this head. There is only one criterion - like it, don't like it. The hotel is located perpendicular to the coast, from fence to fence no more than 150 meters (or maybe less) and 350 meters long, a sort of sausage. From the entrance gate to the reception, 100 meters. Further: residential rooms in three rows, to the very beach. The rooms are clean, glued with new wallpaper, the furniture is not broken, the plumbing is in order, the air conditioners are in good order. There is no safe. Small TV 14'. There is one Russian channel. The bed is one large, respectively, and the mattress, move it apart, if something does not work out. The view of the sea is present only from the extreme building, where the family rooms are located, and then the side and from the 2-4 floors. (numbers 62. . , 63. . 64. . ). The rooms of the room are quite comfortable, there is a refrigerator, a kitchenette with a stove and a set of dishes (cups, plates, spoons, a pot, a frying pan), the room is divided by a partition into two zones, one has two beds, the other one has a large one. Balcony with a table, chairs and a normal dryer. They don’t put any water in the room, cleaning on the tops - century-old dust under the beds. Mini-disco starts at 9 pm, for children, animators dance standard dances, hold some kind of competitions, lotteries - mostly in German, sometimes dubbed in English. The audience in the hotel is mostly German-speaking, many of our immigrants, very few English, Dutch, Danes and other European living creatures. The territory of the hotel is small, with attempts at landscaping, you can’t call it bald, but green too. Miserable lawn grass, palm trees, in some places some kind of climbing plants, shrubs along the paths. In general, the impression of the territory is simply no. To the left and right of the hotel there is no man's land, strips of 250 meters wide, where cows graze, then the fence of another hotel. There are two swimming pools, one at the reception and restaurants. Another is almost close to the beach, right next to the building with family rooms. Both pools are small, not for swimming, but rather for splashing in the water, although the depth reaches 2.5 meters. There are pools for kids 50 cm deep, 10 squares in area, a jacuzzi, which is activated on a schedule, once or twice a day for half an hour. Sun loungers around the pools are free. There are also bars where up to 18 you can eat sandwiches, hot dogs, drink coffee, any fanta-pepsi and, of course, if you wish, get drunk to the point of intoxication with strong drinks (vodka, gin, brandy, ousi) with some kind of local spill tinctures Well, white wine, red wine and beer. Around the clock, all these joys are available in the bar at the reception. It should be noted that drinking water in the public domain is rather nasty in taste, both with and without gas. The proposed juices are soluble rubbish. Children tried not to give. Along with this, there is a lot of things for a fee. . Ice cream, imported alcohol, chips, something else... The main dining of guests takes place three times a day, either in a restaurant or in an open tavern. The menu is the same, the difference is in the entourage, so a few more details about the main food: Breakfast from 7.30 to 10. Standard and not changing, scrambled eggs, all sorts of omelettes, sausages, sausages. Quite edible sausage and cheese. Fried tomatoes, pudding, sometimes milk porridge, yogurt, very good dried fruits and candied fruits, cereals, milk, tea, coffee, cocoa. Jams. Jam. No pleasure - a morning snack, and nothing more Without from 13 to 15 No soup. Meat-chicken, fish, french fries, sometimes stewed vegetables, almost always pasta with sauces and grated cheese. Black olives, chopped vegetables, and a ready-made Greek salad. Any tea and coffee. Fruits, watermelon, melon. Dinner from 19 to 22 Practically repeats lunch. Sometimes there is seafood. Again, sometimes, something like the dish of the day at the distribution. Roast pork, sometimes lamb. Some kind of soup. Pureed, often pea, quite tasty. . AND THE MOST INCOMPLETE THING IS NO TEA FOR DINNER. Or at least a thermos of hot water. . Only coffee and cold drinks. At any time in the canteen there are vending machines with drinks, all sorts of forfeit-Pepsi, there is beer and wine - red and white. They cook not tasty, which is not typical for the Greeks, rather the principle works - “it is paid, it must be swallowed”. Rarely has a meal been satisfying, and there has been a desire to go for a supplement. Even their national dish "Moussaka" managed to cook extremely disgusting. But the sweet is delicious, always fresh, all sorts of cakes, pastries, mousses, jelly and others like them. Beach and sea. The beach is common, not fenced, 100 meters long and up to 30-40 meters wide, coarse sand, several rows of sun loungers with umbrellas. For using them by the sea, they collect from workers 5 euros a day. They give you a check and you can come and go. I have never seen that the beach was cleaned, or at least someone did something in the sea and on the sand. Sometimes they left things on sunbeds, by the sea, and went to the pool, or to eat. Nothing was missing. In the strip of eternal surf, pebbles, flat pebbles, entry into the sea and exit, may not be comfortable due to this. The depth starts at just 25-35 meters, you can move away from the coast to the waist, then to the chest. Children are comfortable. There are fragments of algae in the sea, not that much and critical, the water is muddy and not transparent, but warm. But the Aegean Sea itself does not allow you to relax. Waves are present almost constantly, quite unbearable wind often blows and noticeably stormy. (Those who were in Crete, on the North Shore, were probably not enthusiastic about the sea - which, for some reason, is called Cretan there. You can enter the sea only a couple of times in two weeks. - it’s a little better here) However, the beach near the hotel is considered to be very good and the water is warm. On the southern coast of the island, the beaches are mostly pebbly, or completely stone, the water is clean and clear, BUT it is noticeably colder, in July, in the sun, it warms up only by 3 in the afternoon. We chose the hotel exactly on the beach, so that there was sand and sandy entry into the sea, we refused some hotels on the south coast, obviously better than the “princess”, but with pebble beaches, and I don’t have the feeling that I made a mistake in choosing. The hotel is very suitable for staying in it with children, everything is nearby, and pools and playgrounds, you do not have to strain to keep a trifle in sight. Near the hotel there are two mini supermarkets with a sufficient selection of all sorts of important little things... swimming trunks, swimwear, sun cream, glasses, caps, shorts, etc. , etc. Well, some kind of food and water. There is also a bus stop, you can get to the capital in about 20-30 minutes, the schedule is at the reception. By the way, there is a Russian-speaking employee at the reception, Denis in my opinion. . Etc. Nisyros island. This island is a satellite of Kos. Like Malta and Gozo, like Crete and Santorini. There is a legend according to which Poseidon cut off a piece from Kos with his trident and threw it at the rebellious Titan - this is how Nisyros turned out. It takes about 50 minutes to sail to it by boat. Boats ply from the port at 10 departure to 15 return. Nisyros, this is a volcanic island, there is a living, active volcano, you can drive up the caldera to the hydrothermal crater of the volcano, go down into it, and stay in a real volcano vent! Poisoning with hydrogen sulfide. The ground underfoot is hot and springy with steps. puddles of boiling mud, crystals of native sulfur. This is the only volcano, unique in the world, with geological and volcanic layers preserved and accessible for study. I can’t say that it’s very interesting, but it’s clearly worth a visit... The island itself does not stand out for anything remarkable. Mountainous and bald. There are no views and beautiful panoramas. Well, perhaps, a panorama of the volcano caldera from a mountain road. And, to be honest, far-fetched. In the port you can rent a motorbike or a car. This is if you decide to come by boat on your own and see the volcano. In general, that Kos, that Nisyros are bald, practically devoid of vegetation pieces of land in the sea. Anyone who writes that Kos is a garden island, you can first safely spit in shameless eyes, and then recommend visiting Kerkyra. (Corfu) (I'm already silent about other islands - gardens in the world, Hawaii for example) The Greeks themselves say - paradise in Greece on Corfu. It is a pity that this summer it burns like a torch - a beautiful place is dying, the unique microclimate is irrevocably changing. So don't expect something out of the ordinary from Kos. . . An ordinary Greek bald island, where, by and large, there is absolutely nothing to do. Day to go to the capital, visit the remains of the castle of the Order of Ionites. Take a little walk. Well, you can go to the thermal springs, where a piece of the sea is fenced with stones, there is an exit of thermal water into the sea, and it is naturally hot. A sort of natural Jacuzzi. It has a healing effect on all kinds of radiculitis-chondrosis. Car rental on the island. Upon arrival, the guides will tell you a standard horror story about independent contacts with the native population. About the dangers that lie in wait for naive tourists during independent excursions and car rentals. These are standard tales from the crypt, which have to be listened to solely out of respect for people. Guides from the Millennium, very responsive and friendly guys, honestly doing their job, do not consider clients like wallets with legs, which you definitely need to climb into, they are not imposed, but they also try not to miss their own. So, car rental starts from 65 euros per day, (type deu matiz) something more decent 80-90 euros. Which in my opinion is not at all normal. . And near the hotel for all rolling prices are exactly the same. We take a taxi and for 9-10 euros we go to Matsuhari. There we rent a car for 35-40 euros, with its delivery near the hotel reception, by agreement. Rights as such are of no interest to anyone. . What are there? International? Russian? Martian? BUT . . OK. . OK. . Drive most importantly carefully. We begin to ride around the island. The roads are good and there are few cars. After a day of skiing, we understand that there is nowhere to go, there is absolutely nothing to see, another day we come up with all sorts of routes ourselves, mainly along the beaches, then the car is needed exclusively for trips to Paradise Beach (a taxi back and forth will cost 50 euros). This is if there are waves and wind on your beach. Paradise is located on the south coast and is considered the best beach on the island. Um. Seeing this "best" beach, a completely logical question arises - what then are the rest ? . Sunbeds with umbrellas there 7 euros. The beach is being cleared! Sand both in the sea and on the shore, a bay, there are practically no waves, the water is very clean, but it’s very cool, we arrived there by 10 in the morning, there were practically no people, we went into the sea and got out in goosebumps in minutes. The sea warmed up more or less only in the late afternoon. In general, I liked it on the beach, you can eat and drink, ice cream is sold, there is a children's water park a little further away, all sorts of inflatable fun on the water for 4 euros from the nose. Yes, water park. Near the hotel, about 1 km along the road is the Water Park. The cost of visiting for a day, adults - 17 euros. Children over 4 years old 13 euros. Inside there is a zone for kids, with slides, waterfalls, climbing walls. Several pools, including waves. The waves are pretty strong. You can easily swallow several liters of chlorinated water. Large slides are not very impressive. Who was in other aqua, at least in Antalya will be a little disappointed. Grown children are allowed on these slides either by height - above 130 cm. Or at the reception you write a receipt in a standard form, and they are given a bracelet on their hand. Tada watchers on the slides don't mind. Whatever it is, it's pretty fun, and it's quite possible to spend a day there. There is something like a zoo, you can walk around and see. Well, that's all, on the Internet I did not find information that suits me either on the island or on the hotel, maybe it will be useful to someone. To be honest, reviews like “everything is super, I liked it very much, Just a fairy tale! Greece Foreva! Island - Garden ”, etc. , one often really wants to put in one place the sellers of tours who write them and other vitally interested citizens. It would be better if they didn’t write anything at all than any nonsense about cornflowers, discos, anxious animators and the like three-line rubbish that does not carry any semantic load. In my opinion, there is a simple beach holiday on the island, without pretensions, at the level of a European hegemon, do not expect increased attention to your person, I got the impression that all these vacationers with their Eurekas are flat-parallel to the local population. The maximum period of "rest" on the island is 10 days, it is difficult to endure more without the participation of an alcohol bar. For comparison, I can say that we lived in Corfu with the children for quite a long time, only 15 days we rode around the island by car, and did not get tired of admiring the views, beaches, beauties, monuments and the island as a whole. And the Ionian Sea is just a fairy tale. I would like to live there. The Aegean Sea did not stand nearby. So the desire to come to Kos again can appear only as a result of an extremely profitable, budget proposal, and then no more than 8-10 days. The photographs on the Internet give a fairly accurate picture of the island and the hotel, as well as of Nesyros. A little later, I'll upload a photo to the radical and attach a link. I beg your pardon for a somewhat "telegraphic" syllable, it is always not easy to express impressions, and even more so to make them as informative and accessible as possible. There will be questions write. pumka2405330 gaff gaff gmail. com. All the best. Petr.
