I’ll make a reservation right away that when choosing a vacation, we were guided by our own preferences:
1. Sea,
2. maximum distance from discos, animation, parties and shopping,
3. the presence of a wild coast and a rocky landscape,
4. lack of a “vegetable” beach (I don’t like to overcome an obstacle course of smoking seals on the way to the water),
5. lack of children (barely attached to relatives for a week),
6. the possibility of spearfishing for the husband (because he is bloodthirsty),
7. good service for me,
8. restaurant with a terrace and a sea view (we read for breakfast on sofas),
9. Well, since Croatia, so close to Dubrovnik (it should be noted).

Perhaps most of the “tourists” will see our pluses as minuses, well, we won’t meet with them at all. I will describe the rest according to my own priorities. So, Kolochep is an island with a length of six to eight kilometers. Two villages: Dolnee village and Gornee village. Dolinnoe and Gornoye villages, you have to understand. There is a shallow sandy bay in Dolinnoye village. There is a port in the bay, a hotel in the port. Therefore, swimming on a sandy beach (which is a rarity in this rocky region) you first walk 100 meters waist-deep in water maneuvering between sea urchins, then swim, maneuvering between boats and pleasure yachts.
The width of the beach is 8-10 meters, the length is 200 meters. On one side of the beach, the natives, on the other, the hotel administrator guards paid sunbeds and rental kayaks. Kayaks are also on the beach. A smart question: how much personal space will an average vacationer at Villa Kolocep have on the beach if the hotel has more than 200 rooms?
There was also a pool with free sunbeds and free bleach. The people used. . .
But I have a pool at home, better about the sea....We have been to many places, we have never seen such a clean sea. On one of the days it was slightly stormy, while the water was absolutely transparent even near the shore. I think the reason for this is the peculiarity of the local rock - unusually strong, rough like coral. In some places on the rocks we found veins of metal ore - thin rusty and very sharp plates. The breaking wave does not crush the rocky rock. There are no pebbles and small stones near the coast, respectively, and there is nowhere for natural debris to settle. From the side of the Elaphite cliff, excellent visibility is thirty meters in depth - it’s just dark further on.
We did not swim on the hotel beach. They went to the rocks. At the reception they give out a map of the island with marked hiking trails. Including wild beaches. We liked the one near the Mountain Village on the opposite (precipitous) side of the island. Walk about a kilometer and a half. But it's worth it. And the road is more than pleasant.
Resting "vegetables" on the rocks are not found. Seclusion is occasionally violated by small groups of Germans in full gear: shorts, T-shirt, cap, high sports socks, hiking shoes, a backpack, a camera in one hand, a map in the other, and sunscreen in the third. It was fun. We purposefully chose a sparsely populated island with a rural flavor and our wardrobe during a sunny day consisted of swimsuits and flip flops. So we walked from the hotel to the beach. Undressed on the beach.

If you are too lazy to walk, then after 300 meters from the hotel there is an equipped nudist beach. A pleasant rocky bay and delicately hidden concrete platforms in the rocks and several organized water drops.
With regard to whether to take children with you, you should not rely on my opinion.
There is an old joke: “- Lieutenant, do you like children?
“There are no children, but the process itself…. ” so it's about me.
Families with children met. Even wheelchairs. At the hotel, they strive to provide them with inventory to a minimum: high chairs and something else seems to have been there... But remember! Taking a small screaming creature with you, you will no longer be able to climb mountain paths, kayak around the island, retire in the forest in the midday heat....
Flora and fauna. Flora is great. The paths are strewn with needles, the smell in the forest is a concentrate of coniferous essential oil. There are no birds. Mosquitoes in microscopic quantities. The scariest thing is the cicadas. Such flies, 2-3 centimeters each, yell with bad voices all daylight hours.
The underwater world is not rich in fish. We don't count hedgehogs at all. There are many stars in the port, small crabs, sea anemones, commercial fish in flocks. There is no one to hunt with a gun. On the first day, my husband shot a small moray eel and that's it . . We met the Germans with more decent equipment, those with weights dived, they also complained.
The hotel is quite decent, if you do not forget that this is a three-ruble note. The staff is polite. They don't spit in Russian. The room is average, the repair is moderate, they were cleaned tolerably, the bed was changed, the water is hot without interruption, the condo plows. We didn’t figure out how to get out of the room, we don’t watch TV on vacation in principle, but everything was in the room.
Of the regular entertainment was: an ensemble of local minke whales with national music (who seemed a little, they could not listen to them daily in the restaurant at the pier) and a jazz evening, also not bad. All this while having dinner on the terrace.

Food is modest. All products are of good quality. For breakfast, a lot of store-bought packaged - processed cheese, pate, yogurt. Unlike Turkish, sausages in Croatia are made from meat. At dinner a couple of times there were seafood. We paid for breakfast and dinner, there was not enough meat. I want to say that in relation to nutrition there was a conscious choice. In our unit of society there were overweight comrades, I didn’t want to aggravate... It is possible that during the lunch meal the buffet abounded with meat delicacies, I do not presume to judge.
Alcohol in the evening and for money. We thought it was too expensive. We did not purchase alcohol at the hotel. We bought it a couple of times in a shop on the pier - everyone wanted to try the magical Dalmatian wines. Maybe they chose badly, maybe they were greedy, but... the same mumbling as we have in tetrapacks. We went along the beaten path: in the mountain village we were asked by the gossips, they directed us to the last house with blue shutters in front of the wild beach. There dedun sells tolerable wine for 15 kunas/liter (something around 90 rubles). I must say right away that we are not great gourmets in the choice of alcohol, but even in central Russia, in the modest conditions of homesteading, we succeed in much better wines...
The coffee machine was not included in the buffet. The coffee was real, but in a thermos. Tea bags. Milk is cold. Cappuccino can be obtained at the restaurant on the pier.
The general impression is the following: the island is beautiful. Landscapes and the sea are beyond competition.
The hotel is acceptable. The trees are cute. The local color is the same. I advise you to visit the current church in Dolny village. To the left of the hotel along the sea you will meet a chapel the size of a bread stall. In Gorny, the church is almost like a stopping pavilion - ten people at a time will be able to enter. Places of worship are decorated with luminous garlands, like a provincial casino. So cute. The cemetery is unusual (it is indicated on the map), the chapel there is also funny. Every hour the church bell on the mountain echoes the bell on the bottom.
On the road from Dolny to Gornoye, near the first-aid post, there is a house the size of a small provincial dacha - a school.

I recommend the kayak. From the hotel swim all the time to the left - wonderful caves. You can’t get into them from the shore, but you can swim in a kayak from the sea. The arch-rocks are dark, converge in a wedge, the bottom is covered with white sand. The surf in the cave echoes as if the monster is breathing.
Of the serious shortcomings, I note the tour operator. We never saw the Croatian representative of Pax.
No information about the return transfer in Russian was found anywhere. It was difficult to find out the time of departure at the reception. BUT! Turns out! At the indicated time, we must board a paid regular boat on our own and cut to the port of Dubrovnik. In the port, too, no one really fussed to find us. Wandering the lost boy-driver. I was able to identify him only by his bored look. If we didn’t show promptness, we would have to cuckoo at the hotel reception...
So, vacationers, be vigilant: in countries with a developing resort business, the quality of your vacation depends only on you.
Everything that depended on us, we conscientiously fulfilled and we are satisfied with the result. : -)
