We went on a special offer a / c Malev - three nights in Budapest. Although we live in St. Petersburg, the most convenient option for us is from Helsinki.
To Helsinki - by car, we spent the night in the Hilton, also on a special offer. (119 euros for three people with a visit to the Flamingo Water Park).
We drove back at night, the road from Vantaa airport to the house took 5 hours, along with the border and coffee sausages at the gas station.
FLIGHT. Helsinki-Budapest-Helsinki, everything exactly to the minute. Departure 8-45, arrival back 22-45. It turned out three nights and almost four full days. For some reason, they did not find Malev in the check-in machine for the flight. By the way, the machine also has Russian. Before departure, the aircraft was treated with an orange liquid and blown against icing, a thin film on the windows remained until landing. Food on the plane - coffee, tea, lemonade, juices and a sandwich. Wine was offered on the way back. We got to the hotel in 25 minutes by taxi - ZONATAXI for 22 euros.
HOTEL Corvin 3*.
It is located on a quiet narrow street, where there are several more hotels, in a fairly new 6-storey building. There are also several rooms in residential building number 26 directly opposite the hotel, one of which was offered to us. The reception is very helpful with good English. Settled immediately without waiting for a check-in, gave the keys to the front door, from the second door and from the room. Everything in the room, entrance and hotel is very clean and tidy. Instead of a standard triple (as they have in the photo on the website), we got a studio room approximately 45-50 sq. m. with a kitchen, a refrigerator and an electric stove, but from the dishes there were only forks, knives, 4 plates and 2 glasses. Upon request, a third glass was brought. There is no soap or shampoo at all, although there are tubs for them. The safe was locked but refused to open. The girl at the reception nodded her head in understanding, called the master and opened the safe. They were no longer used. There was also a price list for a minibar, but there was no bar itself! There are no Russian TV channels.
The heating is adjustable and very comfortable. Double-glazed windows with wooden frames. Carpet on the floor, tiles in the kitchen area. Beds are comfortable, pillows are small. All furniture is wooden. No hair dryer, no kettle either. The kettle was missing the most.
Breakfast in the restaurant (that's a big word), the breakfast room in the main building. The plates are small. The choice is small: muesli, scrambled eggs or eggs, jam, butter, sweet peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, sliced ham, yogurt, 2 types, apples, kiwi, oranges, juice, 2 types, tea, milk and coffee (not coffee, but coffee drink). Bread gray and white. There are no buns or pastries. One day they brought out a salad in a microscopic vase. Everything is fresh. Breakfast is from 7 to 11, but at 9 nothing is delivered. The look of a restaurant worker expressively says: "Why do they eat so much! ". Good coffee is brewed by a girl at the reception for 1.5 euros. From the restaurant there is access to the patio, such a green oasis with cypresses and all sorts of flowers.
We had a late check out, I went to renew the room, they didn’t take the money. At the request, they called a taxi, it came in a minute.
On the recipe you can buy the Budapest Card, tickets for the sightseeing bus, and something else. There were no Russians in the hotel, there were Germans, British and Italians.
The metro is very close, walk 5 minutes. Walk to the center for 30 minutes.
BUDAPEST. We initially planned a bathing and relaxing trip, so we didn’t go to museums, we left it for the next visit. Took only a bus tour with an audio guide on the first day. Enough to understand what and where is located, navigate the city and get the most general information. But if you want a real tour with interesting stories, legends, then you need a guide. The bus option doesn't work in my opinion.
We walked a lot around the city, looked outwardly at all the main sights, walked the entire Andrassy Avenue, climbed Buda.
I really liked the yellow metro line, such small trailers, the stations are lined with blue-white tiles, wooden booths. The music score is funny. I was struck by the number of controllers, there are just VERY many of them!
Vorosmarty ter Square left a special impression on the eve of Easter and Palm Sunday. There are various souvenirs, folk crafts, fragrant sachets, food that is cooked in front of you in huge pans, musical groups replace each other. Wooden benches where you can sit and relax. At the entrance from Vaci Street, on the left, delicious pretzels are prepared (I don’t know the correct name), the dough is washed on a long round piece of wood, fried over a fire like a barbecue, and rolled in cocoa, cinnamon, coconut, etc. It costs 1200-1500 forints. Delicious! We even brought home a couple of these pieces.
I was also pleased that almost everyone with whom we spoke spoke English normally - in shops, restaurants, street vendors, cashiers in the subway (they understood what we wanted from them).
SECCHENI BATH. Went 2 times. I liked it very much! There didn’t seem to be a lot of people, or they just spread out over the territory. Newly installed electronic locks do not always work. The bathhouse workers lock the cubicles themselves (despite the electronic lock) and give you a metal token on a string to attach to your swimsuit. Only two people are allowed in the booth. Honestly, if you are not particularly shy, there is no point in taking it. The entrance for those who need a cabin is to the right of the central one. There is a safe, free of charge, located at the entrance next to the booths. There are not many people in the interior, mostly pensioners sit and relax.
In one of the pools, under the guidance of an instructor, ladies did exercises with dumbbells. It's just great outside! First, we warmed ourselves in the warmest pool, where the chess players sit, then we swam across the large pool, then we had fun in the third one. There, either a circular water carousel or underwater jets are turned on in turn. In a circle there are sun loungers, people are sunbathing with might and main. There is a cafe. The metro is right in front of the main entrance. By the way, the only inscriptions are NOT in Hungarian, these are "entrance" and "exit". And also "Goodbye" in Russian! So it is better to study the price list in advance.
GELLERT BATH. The entrance is on the right when looking directly at the hotel. Nice atmosphere, mosaics, columns, sculptures. The internal common pool is small, in 1/3 of its part exercises are carried out, also with dumbbells. There is a separate entrance to the rooms with thermal baths-saunas. Some visitors are in bathing suits, some are naked, some are in pinafores. I liked the aroma sauna with eucalyptus.
Since the whole bath is not very big, it seems to be a lot of people. And when a group of Italians came, I immediately wanted to leave. Drawers and booths are the same as in Szé chenyi, closed with a bracelet. On the second floor there is a cafe and an open terrace. The outdoor pool was not yet open. There is also a cafe in the lobby with delicious pretzels. It seemed to me that the water in Gellert is heavier or something, after swimming there we just went to the hotel to sleep. And after the Szé chenyi, they still conquered Buda.
FOOD. They didn’t go to restaurants purposefully, they just ate where they wanted. Most of all I liked the food in the restaurant opposite the Synagogue. At Vorosmarty Square we tried huge chops, sausages, meat and potatoes, chicken with something. Delicious, but very salty. Last day we went to McDonald's.
The city is very interesting, there are many beautiful buildings, unfortunately, some of them are in a deplorable state. True, the tourist center is being actively put in order.
Of course, it’s impossible to see everything in three days, by the evening we were so tired that we could hardly
