What could be better for inveterate travelers than the contemplation of the blue, transparent, sparkling sea next to the proudly rising purple mountains? Eilat is one of the few cities in Israel where you can enjoy this combination. Here, the eternal sun wakes up in the mountains of Moab and retires among the mountains of Eilat, and along the way it warms the sea, the city, its inhabitants and guests. The waters of the Red Sea hide one of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world, which, thanks to its bays, labyrinths and deep canyons and the amazing variety of fish scurrying among the magnificent corals, has become a place of pilgrimage for diving enthusiasts from all over the world. Just a few seconds - and your heart belongs to this reef and heady underwater silence.

Eilat Coral Reef, stretching for 1200 meters along the seashore, is one of the most northern reefs in the world and the only coral reef in Israel, and therefore it is declared a natural reserve. Fans of underwater nature flock here, including both professional scuba divers and amateurs - novice swimmers with snorkels (breathing tubes). The Eilat reef consists of one wall of coral descending to a depth of 3-4 meters, beyond which there is a sandy strip with two huge rocks (known as Moses and Jesus), and another coral wall, sheer, going to a depth of about 35 meters. Magnificent corals create multi-colored "gardens" in which fish of all shapes and colors swim, and amazing sea creatures live. This underwater jungle is home to about 270 species of coral, home to at least 2.500 species of marine life (some of which can only be found in the Red Sea), including sea turtles, sea urchins, barnacles, sea anemones, crayfish, sponges, cuttlefish, octopuses, tropical fish and even a few friendly dolphins make any dive an unforgettable experience.

The Coral Reef area has a number of dive sites: the Jesus and Moses Rocks, which can be reached by a bridge in the northern part of the reserve, and the "Japanese Gardens" in the southern part, which take their name from the striking resemblance between the coral "garden" and Japanese garden. The "Japanese Gardens", stretching 500 meters in length and two steps deep, are the largest and most protected diving site in Eilat. Since the coral reef is a very complex and sensitive ecosystem, and any change can lead to a chain of undesirable reactions, the reserve strictly monitors the number of divers on the reef and the implementation of all rules that maintain the ecological balance.

In addition to the Coral Reef, Eilat has several other exciting snorkeling spots. Among them are the "Caves", a convenient and popular place among divers, located near the border point of Taba and having 2 underwater passages through the reef, one of which can be crossed by swimming. To the north of the reserve is the amazing "Garden of Eels" where you can see a "forest" of eels standing upright. On the edge of the southern coast there is a lighthouse, which has two ring routes. The "Sculpture Garden", arranged in the middle of the sea, can only be reached by boat and only accompanied by an instructor. Opposite the southern marina is a missile boat of the Israeli Navy, sunk in 1994, and next to it is the Paradise, which was chosen by tourists. It is also home to the Institute of the Sea, where scientists and students from various universities conduct research and experiments on coral cultivation. Opposite Almog Beach, you can see another sunken boat, "A-Yetush" ("Mosquito", translated from Hebrew), and on the South Beach ("A-Dromi"), on the way to Taba, it is worth diving to admire the "Tables Neptune" (or Veronica) - a cluster of corals, looking like tables from above.

If you can dive, there are many places in Eilat where you can rent all the necessary equipment to fully enjoy the beauty of the underwater world. And if you still don’t know how, then it’s time to learn, because here you have a unique opportunity to take a course in any of the dozens of diving schools, and, perhaps, make your dream come true.

The city has a tourist information center that provides recommendations on equipment rental and diving sites, as well as general information about Eilat and its attractions.
