Excursions in Jerusalem, holidays in Jerusalem
Plunging into the holy history of the city, do not forget that ordinary people live here and Jerusalem is a modern city filled with the life and breath of people.
The city is divided into three parts: the Old City, surrounded by a wall, where most of the sights are essentially concentrated; East Jerusalem, dominated by Arab culture and the rapidly expanding New City known as West Jerusalem. The Old City is also divided into quarters: Armenian, Christian, Jewish and Muslim.
Jerusalem - the capital of Israel, is located on the slopes of the Judean Mountains, in the center of the country, at an altitude of 700 m above sea level. The city has a sharply contrasting mountain climate, it is hot and dry in summer and cold in winter. The difference between day and night temperatures is very significant (up to 10 degrees), even on the hottest summer days it becomes cool in the evening and at night.
Jerusalem is also the largest city in Israel. It is currently home to about 650.000 people. About 70% of the population are Jews, almost 30% of the city's residents are Arabs. In recent years, about 50.000 new repatriates from around the world have arrived in Jerusalem, most of them from the CIS.
The special spiritual atmosphere of Jerusalem attracts artists, sculptors, writers and musicians from all over the world. There are several theaters in Jerusalem, the largest of which is the Irushalayim Theater, dozens of concert halls, symphony and chamber orchestras. The city annually hosts international festivals: the famous Jerusalem International Arts Festival, the International Film Festival, chamber and symphonic music festivals, jazz and theater festivals. The largest museums - among them the Israel Museum, the Yad Vashem memorial complex in memory of the victims of the Holocaust, the Museum of Science, etc. - open their halls daily for numerous tourists and residents of the country.
The capital of Israel is a major scientific and cultural center. Here are the Israeli Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the Academy of the Hebrew Language, and many research institutes based on the university.
