I never write reviews like this, but this trip made me do it. Since the cost is rather big, you had to be sure that you choose exactly what you like. Therefore, before the trip, my wife and I shoveled a lot of hotels and reviews about them. We settled on J Ambalangoda. And we did not regret our choice. The general appearance of the hotel is good both outside and inside. The staff is polite and ready to help in case of any problems. We were placed on the 2nd floor overlooking the ocean. All that bothered me a little in the room was insects (ants), which appeared on the wall near the air conditioner from nowhere. But we dealt with this problem on the very first day by buying a fumigator in a supermarket. I advise you to buy it and forget about annoying insects.

Our compatriots, who were settled on the 1st floor, faced a completely different problem (this floor is like -1).

There, the insects were larger and much more unpleasant - COCKROACHES (he himself saw two of these creatures in the evening). And they were huge. But the guys were then moved to another room without any problems. We really liked the beach near the hotel, as there are few people, and the water is clean. There was something to compare with, as we went to the beach in Galle, Hikkaduwa and Unnawatuna. I'm sure there are still a lot of good places, but I write about those that I saw with my own eyes.
Now I want to write about where you can go and with whom.
We had little time and many places we wanted to visit. We limited ourselves to trips up to 40 km in the district (an excursion along the river, went to turtles, elephants, to a waterfall where monkeys were fed. We went by train to Galle, to the beach in Unnawatuna. To Hikkaduwa to the coral reef). On the first day we were lucky, and we met a nice guy (tuk-tuker) Chan, who then drove us all the time on excursions and around the city. He usually sits in front of the hotel entrance (red tuk tuk).
Now about where we ate. At the hotel, we had breakfast included, and for lunch and dinner we went to a cafe near the ocean. Once we decided to try lunch at the hotel, but did not like it. Small portion and a little expensive for the money. And there were cafes: "Denis's" and "John's". It was a mistake to go to Chill Pill, where the reviews and the interior itself are just great, but the service and food leave much to be desired. Denis's is not bad, and even very tasty shrimp, but most of all we liked John's. Large portions, deliciously prepared. I liked the soup most of all, and rice with shrimp, squid, fish. John is a hospitable, polite and cheerful person. If you go by tuk-tuk, then be sure to say “to John, a cafe on the beach”, as there is most likely some other place in the city with the same name.
We enjoyed our stay very much and hope to come again.
