I remembered how last year we flew to Sri Lanka - I looked at the sites and was surprised - it feels like another tsunami has passed there, or the writers lived in rooms with a view of "Garden" (which are cheaper by $ 50 but naturally much worse) report on a visit to this bizarre in December 2007.
I want to share with you information about our holiday. Flight. The flight is stressful. There we flew first to Dubai, then we waited for the plane for 4 hours, then we made an intermediate landing in Mali, and only then ended up in Colombo. It should be given credit that Emirates Airlines is a very comfortable means of transportation - the Boeing 777 is impressive. One of the flights was on a Boeing 320 - a copy of our IL-86. On the way back, the pretzel grunted - it was soldered with broth and coffee - everything was politely neat.
So. My wife and I drove around the country together + driver + guide. However, it seems that everyone is carried there like that - with whomever we communicated, they were transported in twos.

The country itself is very beautiful in terms of riot of colors and nature, but extremely impoverished. Poverty is everywhere, even in major cities. (Kalambo, Kandy). As for the guide - our guide practically did not speak Russian - a set of words from which it was difficult to isolate something. And he didn't understand anything at all. Conclusion - if I had not prepared for the trip and had not collected a bunch of information materials on the objects visited - we would not have learned ANYTHING from him. It's good that I have fluent English, so the guide drove English-speaking guides to us and I simultaneously translated their story to my wife. Therefore, the advice - if the tourist speaks English normally - book an English-speaking guide for him - their English, of course, is also lousy, but much better than Russian, especially in hotels the staff speaks English quite normally. At the hotel, I asked around - only one couple had a guide who spoke normally.
Everyone studied Russian - at the cultural center in Calambo - apparently they don’t really strain with their studies there.
The host company Tangering Tours - in terms of organizing visits - everything is fine - there were no complaints. (Except for the quality of the Russian guide) Now for the hotels in which we were. Chaya Village (Next to Sigiriya) - worthy of its 4 *. The hotel is a separate bungalow. Swimming pool. Pool towels are provided by the pool. Everything is stylishly decorated, the buffet is very varied. Chaya Citadel (Kandy) - Most of all we liked. Maybe even 5 stars. You can feel the designer's hand. Everything is thought out in style. Even the waiters are in the same style as the restaurant. Several bars, restaurants, view of the river from the rooms. Grand Hotel - (Nuwara Eliya) - this is definitely not 5 stars, especially in terms of the quality of the rooms - a maximum of 3 stars. The rooms are shabby - there is no minibar, no hair dryer, besides smoky ones. The very decoration of the reception/restaurant really draws on the old luxury.
The area around is very beautiful - extremely well-groomed and neat.
It should be noted the billiard room - for 200 rupees (2 dollars) you can play Snooki. The local Guru will be happy to show and tell you how to hit with which cue in which pocket, if you do not know how to play at all. After the end of the time, he just taught us for another 20 minutes how to hit the ball, how to stand, etc.

And finally, a hotel on the Riverina coast. The quality of service is a solid 4 stars. Nothing to complain about. The quality of the rooms… well, not 4 stars 3+ maximum. The main problems - water - either boiling water or a thin stream. Even though the light in the bathroom asked to be fixed, they never did. Well, in general, a room without frills for 4 stars does not pull. Buffet - you will not stay hungry, but it cannot be called plentiful and varied. Chip - every day the kitchen is in a different style and meat dishes are prepared right in front of you - sometimes you had to wait 10 minutes in line, but piping hot.
There is NO animation in the hotel + everything is expensive (For example, beer is enough to go out and walk 5 minutes in any direction to a neighboring hotel and there it will be a dollar cheaper. The same massage - in a neighboring hotel - $ 10 per hour of full body massage). You should definitely take Ocean View - those that have a nasty view part go to the compressor station, which rumbles 24 hours a day, part to the sewer block from which in general there is a smell - the rest (the remaining third - it seems tolerable, but not the fact that you are lucky it is from this third) From the first floor of the rooms there is direct access to the courtyard / pool. On the one hand, + on the other - - who cares. The beach is cleaned every day. Beach fights are not particularly interesting + they sell quite interesting utensils and you can buy them as souvenirs. What can be recommended. When exiting the beach, turn left. After 50 meters, three tents / huts. Go into the second - there are two aunts and a tailor.
Any clothes will be sewn in size within 2-3 hours. They speak English very well, and I also gave them a couple of Russian lessons - so maybe they can name things in Russian. It is necessary to bargain - the price is reduced by 20-30% of the original price. There are really cool little things there + you can choose the fabric to your liking from which the thing you like will be sewn. Move on. After another 50 meters there will be a 2-star hotel Blue Laguna. They do a full massage for 1000 rupees (It's less than 10 dollars) + you can drink local beer (0.6 liters) for 165 rupees - 100 rupees ($1) cheaper than at the hotel. In general, this hotel can be noted. It has about 10 rooms in total. The price is 30 euros per day for two with three meals a day. I think we can bargain. Minus - no air conditioning in the rooms - only a fan. Otherwise, quite normal spacious rooms. Surely if you go from the operator, then there is the possibility of purchasing blocks or whatever they call it.
The administrator there Rohan gladly showed his hotel. The standard entertainment that is offered is a three-hour trip along the Bentota River. It is guaranteed that you can see a crocodile alive in nature, a bunch of monitor lizards, flying foxes, monkeys are also likely + a photo with a tortured crocodile - which is in such a coma that it is completely safe. The cost is no more than $20 per person. You can bargain up to $15-17. During the trip, spices are brought to the garden. Bargaining is guaranteed. Up to 30-40% discount guaranteed. They sell really good stuff there. Due to the fact that the hotel is located almost at the mouth of the Bentota River, the ocean is quite fresh, although there were days when the ocean drove water into the river and then the sea became unbearably salty. In this regard, the Eden Hotel 5 * adjacent to the Riverina is not a place for swimming. It stands right at the mouth of the river….
