We traveled with a child at the beginning of December. The flight via Dubai was quite exhausting, as was the transfer to the hotel. The trip from the airport was colorful: our bus moved mainly in the opposite direction, so we had to look not ahead, but to the sides - and there were trucks full of scary people, sloping houses, barefoot uncles wrapped in blankets. We arrived at the hotel by 7 am, and we were immediately settled in a spacious room with an extra bed for a child (although we paid for a double room without an extra bed). Breakfast, which did not seem to be supposed to be on this day (since check-in was from 12 noon), was postponed to us from the last day when we left the hotel at night. So the hospitality here is on top - they did everything they could.
It is difficult to leave the hotel with a child - there are no sidewalks, and it's hot. This is used by local tuk-tukers - they will take you inexpensively to any store - which will have rather high prices - since the seller must pay bonuses to the tuk-tuker for the tourists they bring. Therefore, if you want to make an expensive purchase, it is better to go to the store on foot. On the way from the hotel to the highway there is a good jewelry store Sakura and the owner makes items to order, you can bargain well. On the second floor, he has souvenirs - the cost of which, when buying jewelry, he will have for you much less than in dirty shops on the beach. Everywhere you have to bargain, as the prices for souvenirs are simply shocking. Food in Sri Lanka is also very expensive, so it's worth taking dinner at the hotel ($20 for one). Outside the hotel, it won't be much cheaper, but they will cheat - that's for sure. If you speak English, then it is easier to negotiate tours with beach-boys, who always lie in wait for you on the beach at the exit from the hotel. With them, and cheaper and you can plan as convenient and when convenient. And in general, any whim for a fairly small amount of money. They organize any trip by tuk-tuk, car, minivan, boat. They can take you to the market to buy seafood and cook it as you order, it will not be more expensive than in a restaurant. We never found a playground, there is no animation. But our child was not bored - the pool, the ocean, chipmunks, monitor lizards (did not want to go home). As a result, we liked Sri Lanka.
