Recently, the direction - Sri Lanka has been very popular among my tourists.

Every day I get asked a lot of questions about this amazing island. I really want to share my personal experience, tell about all the nuances in as much detail as possible, but unfortunately,

I don't always have time, so I decided to answer the frequently asked questions:

1) CURRENCY

It is better to change dollars at the airport. The most profitable course is here. For example, at the beginning of December at the airport 100 USD cost 12900 LKR, while in the exchange offices of resort cities 12540

Today, December 10

1 USD = 126.078 LKR

In addition, local merchants like to equate $ 1 to 100 rupees

And when buying, for example, a bag for 2.000 rupees, they will require $ 20 from you =)

Be sure to ask for a check when exchanging currency.

This may be useful to you on the way back, during the return exchange. Inside the country, it is almost impossible to change dollars at a more or less normal rate.

2) COMMUNICATION

At the airport there are cellular communication desks with different operators: Dialog, Mobitel and Etisalat...The system is the same for everyone, the cost of calls is cheap. The starter package costs about $10, of which $8 will be credited. This amount is enough for about 35-40 minutes of calls to Ukraine.

This is much more profitable than connecting roaming or the usual travel sim.

There are no complaints about the quality of communication.

3) WHEN TO VISIT THE COUNTRY

Climatically, the best and driest season lasts on the western and southern coasts and in the mountainous part of the country from December to March, and on the east coast - from May to September.

Traveling in other months outside of the high tourist season has its advantages - not only the absence of crowds of tourists, but also the reduction in prices for all flights and hotel rooms. It almost never rains continuously. As a rule, tropical rains fall at night, and in the morning there is not a trace of them.

Reefs protect the beach area, you can swim wonderfully in places like Hikkaduwa, Koggala, which can be nice even during the monsoon period.

4) HOW MUCH MONEY TO TAKE WITH YOU?

Of course, it all depends on the person and his abilities.

Recommended minimum $25 per person per day. And then you can calculate for yourself.

You can eat from 40 rupees (a suspicious pie at a local bazaar), about 500 rupees - a set lunch, up to 1.000 rupees for a sumptuous lunch in a good restaurant.

The chip of Sri Lanka is rum and fruit. Rum costs about 1350 rupees a bottle of 0.7 liters. Mango - no more than 300 rupees per kilo. Pay no more - if the price is higher, then bargain. Beer up to 200 rupees.

Rent a tuk tuk - really ridiculous prices) And here again, do not hesitate to bargain.

Where initially you will be offered 700 rupees - it is quite possible to go for 150.

5) SHOPPING

I would advise shopping lovers to visit Colombo. Few people know that Sri Lanka is the main exporter of the world's clothing.

The country produces clothes of many well-known brands for sale in Europe and America. At the same time, 10-15% of the produced goods are sold in the country (such is the law). And since the locals cannot buy these things at the prices of the owner of the trademark, the merchants cut off the labels and sell the goods many times cheaper. Shopaholics are recommended to visit the House of Fashion shopping center in Colombo

There are also modern shopping centers “ODEL UNLIMITED”, “ARENA”, “MAJESTIC CITY” (Magestic City is a large shopping center with a huge parking lot, numerous cafes, boutiques. LIBERTY PLAZA ”with exclusive boutiques and large supermarkets.

That's all for now : -)
