My wife and I decided to fly to Sri Lanka two days before departure. turned up a hot tour at a very good price (almost twice cheaper). We were offered a choice of about five hotels, the difference between the cheapest and the most expensive was $240. Our choice intuitively fell on the cheapest of those offered, the Dickwella resort 4 * hotel, and it's not about the price at all, but about the fabulous location of the hotel, on the spot the fairy tale turned into reality.
After paying for the tour, hastily began to surf the Internet in search of information about the hotel and Sri Lanka in general. Being in India five years ago, I thought that these countries are not much different, so this country did not particularly attract me, as it turned out - in vain. All I knew about Sri Lanka before was that tea is grown there : ) Having read reviews about the hotel a short time before departure, I dug up the following:
1) mostly the reviews are good, there were those who lacked the quality and quantity of food, as for me everything is on the level, the buffet for breakfast and dinner, a wide variety of food, dinner for us was a pleasant end to the day, but the amount of food worsens as nailing Russian and Ukrainian tourism enthusiasts to the hotel, I think this is due to the fact that our brother is especially hungry and sweeps everything clean there, moreover, they take mountains of food with them into the open, I myself was a witness, shame in a word.

2) The next thing that was alarming was scary stories about some kind of robbery and petty theft of staff at the hotel, I’ll say right away I didn’t notice anything like that, but one couple we met broke the lock on the bag, but nothing was lost, although there were expensive things, apparently they were looking for money, but everything was fine with us, for 100 rupees for tea to the cleaner, our room was licked and the bed was decorated with flowers.
3) Some described terribly annoying and arrogant beach-boys, I didn’t notice this either, in Goa they were really annoying, but here they are mostly nice guys. Once having rubbed with them on all the topics that concern me, no one touched me anymore, of course he spoke in English, although some there know a couple of words in Russian. They all hang out during the day on the beach near the hotel. We were especially lucky with one and I can safely recommend it to adequate people. Even if his English is not perfect, but I haven’t met such a positive, kind and just good person for a long time, he helped turn our vacation into a fairy tale, and in general helped us with everything he could, and very often without selfishness, it’s just that we are very got along well. His name is Rashan, we already knew him in absentia, because. in one of the reviews he was already praised, those guys called him Tooth, we continued to call him the same : ) he is the only one on the beach who sells coconut juice in a coconut : ) he gave them to us for free, and so the price is 100 rupees, for comparison a small bottle of water in the hotel costs 150, at first I drank coconut juice with caution, I was afraid that I could tear the bottom out, but then after tasting it, I drank 3 pieces a day, because. like it or not, our korefan almost forced us to drink, handing us their nashar. With Tooth, we went to Galle and Safari. The guys from Murmansk went to Halle with another person, they were extremely dissatisfied with his attitude, their name is Pierre, in the pictures I will throw off his face.
4) The next thing that scared me was the transfer from the airport to the hotel, according to various reviews, from 4 to 10 hours. Such is the peculiarity, all the normal locations are far from the airfield, so we stocked up on patience, and having plunged into a comfortable bus with a canopy, we set off on the path. The guide said that the road will take 6-7 hours, because. we left at 15:00, early in the morning or late in the evening would have been faster and would have taken 4 hours. After 3 hours of driving, voices of whining peasants were heard behind my back, who swore that they would never go that far again, as they wanted to smoke, eat, etc. etc. , from now on, only Turkey and Egypt are shorter, it was disgusting to listen, adult men, but whined like rags. I don’t know what is there in Turkey and Egypt, because I don’t go there to rest precisely because of such personnel, which are in abundance there. We were at the hotel after 6 hours, by this time I thought that a little more and the guys behind us would go back to Kyiv by hitchhiking : )
Now we had a full 6 days of rest at our disposal. Initially, we decided that we would not go on any excursions, we just wanted to relax on the ocean, but we still went on two. I recommend going to the old fort in Gala, there is something to see, along the way our friendly guide Rashan, brought us to various interesting places, such as a turtle farm, etc. also, without any objections, we deviated from the route at our request, it all depends on your preferences, I googled the local attractions that are on the way to Gale and chose to my taste. We left at 8 am and returned at 9 pm, our guide tried his best to please us until we arrived home, it was after this trip that we realized what a good, kind and helpful person he was, and not an ordinary beach bred, everything he did for us it was sincere and disinterested, for which he was awarded a good tip : ) The second excursion was on a safari, an amateur trip. Elephants in the wild look really interesting, but I went there to see a leopard, but we never met them, so I didn’t really like it. But we met good guys from our hotel who went on a safari with us, a nice married couple from Murmansk, with whom we traveled around Yala Park in search of animals : ) I recommend going to an ancient Buddhist temple not far from the hotel, as well as visiting the bazaar that works on Sundays, where you can taste the local flavor : )

And once again I want to mention our friend Rashan, he is Zub, if you happen to meet him, then give him a big hello from Vova and Nastya, you can call him Zub, he will understand) Trust this man and you will feel what a big heart he has! Have a good rest on Dikwella!
