A trip not to Turkey and not to Egypt

Written: 5 july 2010
Travel time: 24 march — 2 april 2010
Who does the author recommend the hotel to?: For a relaxing holiday; For families with children; For recreation with friends, for young people
I decided to write a review about my vacation in Ceylon (Sri Lanka), because. There are a lot of reviews about Turkish and Egyptian hotels, but much less about more exotic countries. I hope my review will be useful to someone.
So: We flew from Moscow, there are no direct flights, we flew via Doha (Qatar), Qatar Airways. There are no comments on the flight, the transfer was 35 minutes, but still everyone managed, even the suitcases. We flew with the Tez-tour. Upon arrival, we were looking for a guide for a long time, he was a big minus. Then transfer to the hotel. We had a personal Mitsubishi Lancer with air conditioning. To go about 40-50 km, but we drove for about 3 hours. The movement is very difficult. Upon arrival at the hotel, the guide talked to us and gave introductory information, and this, in principle, all communication with him ended. They settled pretty quickly, within half an hour, while we were talking with the guide, we completed all the documents, and while we were talking to him, they offered us free alcohol. cocktail from the bar. The cocktail was real. delicious.
The room is a little worn, but quite good. Let's just say natural wear and tear. The rooms are large, the air conditioner works fine, sometimes it was even cold in the morning. In principle, everything worked, an electrician was called a couple of times, because. they themselves managed to shorten the lamp, but he came and quickly fixed everything. IMPORTANT!! ! The sockets are not the same as in Europe, they are triangular and 120V. There are no adapters and they won’t give you them at the reception, so if you take something with you, BUT there is one normal socket for a razor in the bathroom, it was used to charge phones and batteries for the camera.

In general, I put 4.5 by numbers... no worse than Turkish and Egyptian 5 stars.
Beach - all vacationers sunbathe down on the lawn . . there are always plenty of sun loungers. In general, it seemed to me that there were not very many people in the hotel, although people gathered from somewhere for breakfast and dinner... The beach itself is wild and is located outside the hotel . . but the sand is damn hot. Once I ventured to the sea barefoot, there is a strip of 15 meters wide... : ( Let's just say this feat did not work for me. Use slippers when moving on the sand. The ocean itself makes an indelible impression. Strength Power Beauty. I do not advise you to go far. Rescuers not on the shore, but the waves drag you into the sea, be healthy. In short, I don’t advise you to go further than the neck. + a rather strong current along the coast. You won’t be able to swim in the coastal zone itself, you need to go a little further where waist-deep and then you can jump in plenty waves (7-10 m from the shore). The water is very, very warm. . If you have enough strength, you can sit in the water for half an hour or an hour. But constant waves sometimes up to 1.5-2 meters in height are quite exhausting. Waves on the ocean were 24 hours 7 days a week There is a swimming pool, depths from 20 cm to 80 and even a small part of 2.5 m.
There is a bar directly in the pool, where the bartender will make you quite tasty cocktails, but be sure to ask without ice! ! because for ice they use ordinary tap water. I don’t remember exactly how much that costs from cocktails, but somewhere around $ 7-10, beer 0.33 costs $ 3
We took only breakfast, so I won’t talk much about food, I’ll just say that the restaurant has quite reasonable prices, we even had dinner there a couple of times when it was too lazy to get out to local cafes.
Breakfast is pretty basic, been there a couple of times.
In general, in the heat, we don’t really feel like eating, we only had one meal in the evenings.

Local cafes - they will be offered to you by local beachboys who are on duty right on the beach between the ocean and the hotel, you don’t need to refuse their services, they are quite pleasant and not very intrusive. If they bother you with their presence, just tell them calmly that you don't need their services.
Approximate prices in local cafe-restaurants. Beer 2 bucks per bottle 0.66. The bottles are all used multiple times, so they are all pretty used too. Fish, Shark and other seafood is about 10 bucks per serving, the portions are large, quite enough for an adult + they bring rice and salad as a side dish. Lobsters are somewhere around $20-25 for half a kilo (1 pc). Tiger prawns $15 per serving.
Traveling by local tuk-tuks is quite cheap 1-2 dollars.
Buy yourself a SIM card at the airport and call Russia very cheaply. somewhere around 5 rubles a minute, only the output is not "+7" but "00".
I strongly advise you to go to the center of the island for all sorts of excursions. We went with our beachboy. His name seems to be "Silva". Cheaper than with a guide and easier. You don't have to follow a fixed route. Be sure to visit the elephant farm, see the bathing of elephants and ride an elephant yourself !!!
If you decide to go on excursions, then I advise you to go for at least 2 days, because. the road and the movement itself is very difficult and driving one day (as we did) is very tiring.
Consider buying alcohol there is not so easy and not everywhere and always possible, so take everything in duty free.
In general, I can say that I really liked my vacation in Sri-Lanke. The hotel is very good, the staff, and all the locals are quite pleasant, peaceful people.
I wish you all a good rest and more positive emotions.
