The hotel itself and the rooms - everything as previously described - is completely flaky and battered (inspires optimism that the "patching" repair of the ceiling in the lounge area has started), but the next day you stop noticing it.
We settled before the check-in (after a $10 present) - we found a room on the 3rd floor with a sea view and two separate beds, as we requested. For a bungalow - an additional charge of 25 dollars / day, but, they say, you can negotiate with the manager for a smaller amount.
An unexpected minus is a busy intercity highway (the main one along the entire west coast) with a bus stop - right behind the wall of the main building, the noise from it overlaps even the sound of the ocean, especially from the constant signals of buses and tuk-tuks. In the morning, because of this, you will not sleep for a long time.

The beach is the most picturesque and clean of all we have seen in Sri Lanka (we managed to drive around half of the west coast), but it is dangerous to swim - the surf. So that it is safe - in a small lagoon the size of a pool, which is 200-300 meters to the right along the beach, and to swim enough - this is in Unawatuna - by bus No. 350 or No. 2 - they go every 10-15 minutes, stopping immediately to the right of the entrance to hotel, travel 20-25 rupees one way. Keep in mind that the bus conductor can cheat - just not give change or rip off double the ticket price - but still the trip will be safer and cheaper than a tuk-tuk. On the same buses you can go on excursions to Galle, Hikkaduwa, Mirisa, Matara - tickets for 35-70 rupees. Hikkaduwa also has a bay (also a beach with turtles), but it really reminds us of our beaches with cigarette butts in the sand and boiled corn vendors.
Traveling in local buses is a separate attraction! As soon as they get into the transport, the locals, who are unhurried in life, suddenly start to rush wildly. Therefore, the bus rushes straight along the oncoming lane at breakneck speed! Every second, the driver makes it clear that he is not going to maneuver - tuk-tuks and motorcyclists in bulk. The lights around the icons with Buddha and other gods are blinking, the TV above the driver's head is yelling at full local hits! The front door never closes - a conductor hangs on the footboard and shows oncoming people where to dodge. I advise everyone to go at least once!
One-day excursion to Kandy from the beach boy Manu (found him from earlier reviews on this site) for 55 dollars. (tickets included) - in a comfortable minivan with air conditioning and an English-speaking guide Chanaka - the magnificent Royal Botanical Garden, tea plantations, elephant nursery, spice garden, waterfalls, Temple of the Walking Buddha (the world's tallest statue of the walking Buddha). The organization of the tour is excellent, everyone visited, there were as many as they wanted in the botanical garden. Chanaka is such a taciturn, but responsible, benevolent.
Our hotel is "supervised" by a beach-boy supposedly Denis - everyone spoke very positively about him, although when we talked with him in the morning, he smelled strongly of alcohol. A rival firm - a scourge allegedly Roma - speaks Russian better than others, but he is still a slob. He persuaded us to take a boat trip on the lake for $15. for two, and then instead of himself he sent an English-speaking partner Chaminda, who suggested that we walk to the lake on foot (about a kilometer in the very sun). We were indignant and nevertheless they took us by tuk-tuk, and Roma himself later explained that he had smoked “weed”, he had a headache, and he could not personally conduct the tour.

Food - as in previous reviews - nothing has changed - meager and monotonous. Local cafes on the coast - a couple from Belarus said that an equally large worm (or worm? ) crawled out of a large grilled fish ordered for lunch. The worst thing is that they have already eaten part of the fish. The owner of the cafe apologized and did not even take money for the fish as a favor? . They devoted the rest of the day to internal disinfection with rum.
Fisherman's roadside restaurant inspires more confidence - it's cleaner there, but also a bit more expensive. Tuk-tukers take them there for free, receiving a reward for each guest they bring (at first, of course, they try to bargain for 100-50 rupees).
