Good impressions of a holiday in Sri Lanka!
We stayed with my wife in this hotel from September 27 to October 7.2012. Although two weeks have passed, and we have already had time to feel the autumn cold of "native mother of Ukraine" and are still impressed by the trip to Sri Lanka. Extremely favorable climate, warm ocean, friendly people (Sinhalese), good service, good nature. I will say right away that I did not like it. A tiring flight from Kiev connecting to Sharjah. The total flight time is almost 10 hours. Therefore, immediately prepare for what to do. Take food with you. AIRARABIA - "LOW KIST" airlines are fed only for an additional fee. Be careful with luggage. Make sure you have an urgent transit tape on your luggage at check-in (you can't wait for your luggage in Colombo). From our arrival the girl's suitcase arrived in three days. We got to the 3rd hotel.

Considering that we flew for a long time and left the airport for so long, we met the hotel as a home. At the reception we were identified in the cottage and immediately began the extortion of bucks for providing a room on the second floor. Dear compatriots and other Russian-speaking tourists, DO NOT PAY THEM. Someone from the "new Russians" littered with dollars, and now all Russians are brazenly demanding $ 50 to $ 20 for the universe. But for some reason the Germans and the British are afraid to stutter even about money. Now almost the first floors in the cottages are being repaired, so there is no special difference between the rooms on the floors. The hotel generally corresponds to the stated 4 stars, except that with a slight stretch. Rooms are cleaned every day, the change of linen somehow went unnoticed, and that's not the main thing. The ocean was stormy all the time, which did not prevent swimming and rocking on the waves.
The water temperature in the ocean became +35 degrees. In the pools by the end of the day even more. Wonderful weather.
Only twice saw a tropical downpour for 5 minutes and it was in the evening and at night. We have seen a Russian-speaking guide from a tour operator once in a while, and if it weren't for the lost suitcase of a girl from Kyiv, I thought he didn't care about our interests and wishes. He immediately announced inflated prices for tours, which was later confirmed. Do not rush to go on excursions at once. Talk to tourists vacationing on the beach, beach boys, decide on the direction, then see for yourself that everyone's prices are different. We used the services of beach boy Sunil (Misha) and almost regret it.
First: it can be traded, and secondly, travel in air-conditioned minibuses, speaks good Russian and tells a lot about the island, the culture of the Sinhalese and the history of the country and in general a very nice person. Of course, you don't have to decide where to take excursions, beachboys don't have insurance.
Three days out of 10 we spent on excursions, and that was enough. The first trip we made to the south of the island. First on a boat on the Bentota River (mangrove forests, monitor lizards, crocodiles), visit a Buddhist temple, a spice garden, a turtle nursery and Fort Halle. After breakfast we were picked up and brought to dinner. $ 25 per person. The second trip was made to the center of the island, but given the specifics of traffic on the island (30 km / h), the distance of 150 km will turn for you at 5 o'clock one way, then offer such tours for two days. Do not be afraid, we got a good impression of the trip and absolutely not tired.
We visited the elephant nursery, fed the elephants, watched them bathe in the river (forty elephants at a time !! ), you can ride for 5 bucks (this is longer in time than Monica in the hotel).
In the city of Kandy, we visited the Royal Botanic Garden (beautiful, well-groomed, interesting), the Temple of the Tooth Buddha - the main shrine of the country (modestly but with dignity), and in the evening - a folklore concert at the club (Soviet House of Culture). We spent the night in a hotel at an altitude of 600 m above the city. The view from the balcony of the whole city was shocking. Unwritten beauty. And even more impressions were from the morning view. Sunrise and morning haze will not leave anyone indifferent. Dinner and breakfast are included in the tour price. Next on the plan we had a visit to waterfalls (gorgeous), tea plantations, a tea factory with tea tasting (buying tea for home and friends) and rafting on the river (optional). We had a desire, and we went through it.
Out of 8 points of difficulty, this rafting is estimated at 3 points. Strong for retirees and children. The adrenaline rush rose. On the way we stopped in the most beautiful places, and we did luxurious photo shoots.
And all this fun cost $ 120 per person. We had two pairs of tourists in a minibus, if there are more, then for each tourist another $ 10 less. Therefore, it is better to agree in advance with compatriots on the beach. On the 28th of September, in the full moon, there was a large religious and folklore festival in Wadduwa, which was usually held in Kandy in the full moon in August. The spectacle is impressive. It is reminiscent of Brazilian carnivals of samba schools. Also beautiful costumes, drumming, dancing and of course elephants. In this course there were 17 elephants dressed (including electric illumination). This action began at 21.00 in the evening and ended at 2.00 at night.
In connection with this holiday (as well as every full moon) in the country and in the hotel, too, alcohol is not given or sold (even if you have "all inclusive"), meat dishes are also removed from the menu. These two days must be endured.
You shouldn't make a fuss, nothing will happen, we are visiting them (although for our own money, but as they say, they don't go to someone else's monastery with their own charter). The food is good, varied. You can choose food for every taste. Local food (spicy and specific) on separate tables. The animation program is weak, vacationers organized themselves into water polo and volleyball teams (although I heard the boy several times - "invited" to the game). Elephant Monica is brought to the hotel every day, you can take pictures with her and ride, and then bathe. One of the additional (free) attractions in the hotel is a wedding.
Almost every day the hotel hosts weddings of locals (I will not notice the poor) (beautiful and interesting) about the beautiful country of Sri Lanka.
