The concept of the perfect vacation

“Where does the journey begin? From buying cheap tickets "(c)

… It was a normal day on August 4.2017, I didn't want to think about the 2018 vacation yet, but after going to the Internet once again to see "where Macron drove the euro", I saw an advertisement for promotional tariffs from UIA. Among others, there was a 50% discount on tickets for the Nice-Kyiv flight at the end of June. There were no such prices for flights in the forward direction, as well as for flights a week earlier / later in the opposite direction. In general, for the first time in the history of their travels, travel planning began with the purchase of a return ticket. The ticket cost 58 euros. This tariff lasted exactly 2 days. There were 331 days remaining until the date of flight… Tickets for Kyiv-Vilnius (UAH 751, Wizz) and Vilnius-Nice (EUR 39.99, Wizz) were subsequently purchased.

Part 1. Lithuania in 23 years

… It was the usual early morning of June 13.1995. At that time I managed to get into a school group that was going to Lithuania for 2 weeks.

So early in the morning, at the Kyiv railway station we are waiting for the train Simferopol-Riga, which passes in 20 hours (namely at 02-30 at night) we have to arrive in Vilnius, and then another 2 hours by bus to get to the small resort town of Birstonas.

… Over the past 23 years, everything has changed and accelerated - only 80 minutes (and in fact even less) and we are already in a small, cozy and surprisingly empty Vilnius airport. Friendliness to visitors begins before the border control - on the wall of the crossing is a beautiful panel called "Welcome" in different languages. Of course, there is "Welcome". Flying on a clean biometric passport, the border guard asked the purpose of the trip (health resort) and location (Birstonas). He did not ask for documentary confirmation. Stamp put on the page "Special marks".

Tickets for the Vilnius-Birš tonas bus are bought online in advance (cost about 6 E OW), the airport and bus station in Vilnius are only 2 km away, but you have to overcome them by minibus (cost 2 euros), go 15 minutes, but with luggage due to languages and industrial zone somehow does not fit. There is a large IKI supermarket in the bus station (on the second floor). The bus travels for about 2 hours, the station was filled to 70%. Stops are frequent in almost every village, including in 1995 in Trakai. In Birš tonas it is already about 20.00. For 23 years the bus station remained in the same place. 15 minutes through a beautiful pine forest, along neatly paved paths, past landscaped lawns with exercise machines and children's swings - and we are already at our chosen hotel "Sonata".

Initially, we considered the sanatorium "Egle" (actually attached to the hotel "Tulpe", where we stayed in 1995), but 798 E for 7 nights for two, albeit with FB and 3 treatments a day somehow off-budget. So we booked 100 meters further in the woods hotel "Sonata". We were very satisfied: proximity to the sanatorium and the river, silence, good breakfasts, friendly staff).

Now about the sanatorium. New buildings and the hospital were built in 2014-2017, everything is new, everything is thought out, all buildings are connected by covered passages, more than enough staff, the schedule of procedures is the same on weekdays and weekends (but most procedures are tied to time strictly). He noted that many vacationers from Germany (Russian, German, Turkish).

With regard to mineral waters - pump rooms "Gintaras" are located directly in the building, pump room "Vitautas" - on the contrary, in the city center there is a pump room with water "Birute" (the first source in Birstonas, by the way). More about sources.

In Birš tonas they learned to use mineral water not only for drinking and mineral baths, but also for inhalation. For this purpose, the resort has built 2 water towers, where everyone can breathe water for free. many branches of a tree through which water flows from pipes, in the center - benches and a small fountain. The building from afar resembles a large wicker basket. But its feature - in the evening light, if you try - you can catch the moment of color change, when part of the "basket" is still green and part is already blue.

Another interesting resort procedure (no analogues in the sanatoriums of Ukraine or in the sanatoriums of Slovakia) - "Kneipp trail" - a ring road divided into sectors, which are strewn with stones of various shapes, cones, etc. , which must be passed barefoot .

Principle of action - inequalities affect the biologically active points of the feet, which are responsible for the work of various human organs, which increases the overall tone of the body (analog of flip-flops with "Kuznetsov's implicator", actively advertised 20-30 years ago). Located in the area of the lake with fountains and wooden resort houses, one of which is a tourist information center with a souvenir shop (other souvenirs in Birš tonas did not observe, except that "Egle" in one of the two clothing stores had several shelves with souvenirs, but the prices there are much higher.

Egle also has a newsagent (Russian-language newspapers and magazines are present, I didn't watch Ukrainian-language ones), 2 cocktail bars (of course, all herbal cocktails, no alcohol), a kind of hall with a garden of tropical plants, in which in the evenings there were concerts of live music.

Surprisingly, the city has public transport - small buses (seats 20-25) with an open top, make a circle around the city, starting from the main building "Egle", the cost of the trip is 1 euro. There are rides in horse-drawn carriages (phaetons), but the cost was not specified.

Theme nutrition. There are not many cafes in the city (which is not surprising - the vast majority of tourists choose to stay with full board) located along the Neman River. Pizza Fun in Basanavicius Square has recovered the most.

They feed deliciously, normal portions, humane prices (first courses from 1.90 E, salads from 3.50 E, main dishes from 4.50 E).

There are two large chain stores in the city: “IKI” (located right next to the bus station) and “Norfa” (located at the entrance to the city, B. Sruogos Street, in Ukraine this chain is represented under the brand name “Novus”) . I liked "Norfa" more - the choice of goods is greater, prices are lower. The two most popular Lithuanian delicacies, of course, were bought - Dzugas cheese and Sakotis cake.

The cheese is definitely good, but the cake in the shape of a Christmas tree is very sweet, but goes well with coffee). Well, the tincture "999" was also bought in memory of the city (although, as it turned out in Kiev in "Novus" it is also sold, and at a lower price - 129 UAH for 0.5 liters against 5.2 There are in Lithuania. I can not find an explanation for this fact). Norfa was also interested in Starka drink, but the place of its production frankly stunned - Zolotonosha, Cherkassy region, Ukraine. As they say, Ukrainian-Lithuanian friendship - to strengthen: -).

About currency.

In 1995, coupons were in circulation in Ukraine, and pours in Lithuania. At that time there were at least 3 currency exchange offices in Birš tonas, which Ukrainian money did not accept, but only dollars, German marks and rubles were exchanged. 1 dollar cost a little less than 4 litas. 2018. The hryvnia is in circulation in Ukraine and the euro in Lithuania. I did not see any currency exchange offices in Birstonas, the bank noticed only one in the city - Siauliai Bank (at the intersection of Dariaus ir Gireno and Druskupio streets). But the traditional for us exchange rates in the window were missing.

In Vilnius, POV saw the following selling rates of the euro for the hryvnia: 30.95 at the bus station and 31.10 at the airport. Stands, as I said, were absent in Birstonas as a class.

It is possible to exchange Lithuanian litas for euros (if someone suddenly has euros left, although the euro has been in circulation in Lithuania for about 5 years) at the Central Bank of Lithuania in Kaunas on Myronis Street (when they went to Kaunas, they passed this monumental institution), but first, in the evening it was already closed, secondly, the amount of litas and cents was insignificant and just did not want to waste time). Although, we should not lose vigilance - in one of the pharmacies we were given 50 Lithuanian cents instead of 50 euro cents (a size of these coins is very similar, and the obverses are the same). What else, apart from the lack of exchanges, which favorably distinguished Lithuania from Ukraine and from which the eye simply rested, is the lack of slot machine halls, bookmakers and pawnshops.

In Kyiv, such establishments are found every 100 meters, regardless of the city district.

Yes, and pharmacies - in Kiev there are several in each building, in Birstonas - only in the shopping center "IKI" and "Norfa", In Kaunas pharmacies are also rare.

What has changed a lot in Birš tonas over the past 23 years - the forest within the city has been greatly improved - many hiking and biking trails have been laid, sports equipment, tennis tables, children's slides and swings, playgrounds have been installed. basketball and skateboarding, and importantly, urns and stationary toilets. Between the Sonata and the waterfront is a small well-trodden meadow (this area is recognized by me as a place where we played football in the evenings 23 years ago). On which the summer stage and a dance floor are built.

In the old part of the city there are 2 museums - urban and folk life, next to the old Catholic church (partly in the restoration, not visited), and vice versa in the usual private one-story building - the Evangelical Church.

Summary. Birš tonas is good for a quiet, relaxing holiday, with one-day radial trips, one of which will be discussed in the next story.

Part 2. Resort in a big city

Here came the day of departure, or rather relocation. After breakfast we leave the hotel and move to the bus station. Tickets purchased in advance on the website www. bus tickets. lt. busbiletai. lt . By the way, there are no ticket offices at the bus station in Birš tonas, there is only a small waiting room and a vending machine for drinks and snacks. Tickets are bought from drivers. The bus to Vilnius is already another bus company, goes a different route. We leave the road again to the village, where after making stops, we return.

Forests stretch along the route, occasionally lakes, flocks of geese and swans, and a pair of low-flying falcons in the water above the forest. Long stop (at least 10 minutes in Trakai). I visited it with an excursion in 1995, only a lake with a castle on the island remained in my memory. Now, as it turned out, Trakai is simply surrounded by lakes. Even a cursory glance shows the tourist nature of the town - many hotels and motels, signs in different languages, as well as a tourist train running around the city. Another point in favor of increasing the tourism of Trakai - to the city laid a railway line, a dead end, and, in my opinion, a newcomer. There is no railway in Birš tonas and its surroundings.

At Vilnius bus station strictly on schedule, another 15 minutes by airport minibus - and now the airport itself. It turned out to be a surprise that the Arrival and Departure halls are actually in different buildings.

The airport was unpleasantly surprised by the lack of waiting seats and crowding, and the hall after customs and border control - partial repairs and the lack of amber products in duty-free shops. We are waiting for Airbus-A321 increased length (39 rows), always when booking seats I try to take seats in the second half of the cabin (behind the wing), because in the first in my opinion too noisy. This time he chose seats in the 30th row, analog of 22-24 rows in the most common models AirBus and Boeing (29-31 rows). But this time I didn't guess - it was noisy on the 30-31 benches. What I know for the future, there is not enough experience in flying such large liners. When boarding the plane began a light rain, which gradually intensified, and when the liner, rushing from the gate in reverse on the runway, stopped before the turn, turned into a real downpour.

The few minutes when the plane was parked with the engines running and the crew and controllers were deciding whether to fly seemed like an eternity. Finally, permission was obtained, and the liner began to accelerate. Quickly gaining altitude, we suddenly found ourselves higher than the rain clouds, where it was clear and sunny. On the flight Vilnius - Nice (as well as on Kyiv - Vilnius) worked Lithuanian crews (this time as many as 5 flight attendants), everything was neat and polite, all announcements in Lithuanian and English. Before the ladder, no one took hand luggage in the luggage, the stewardesses, on the contrary, packed bags, suitcases and backpacks on the luggage racks so that everyone had enough space. Three hours of flight passed unnoticed, and after making an arc over the Mediterranean, the AirBus-A321 landed at Nice Cote d'Azure Airport (Terminal 2). The luggage arrived surprisingly quickly (no more than 10 minutes of waiting), but it was alarming that the Arrival hall was freely accessible from the street - that is.

anyone can come in from the street and pick up any bag from the conveyor. Well, or put any with any content… There are police in the baggage claim hall (relaxed wandering from corner to corner), camcorders theoretically too, but still somehow uneasy… From Terminal 2 to get to the city of Nice can be two ways - bus №98 (the cost of the trip is 6 euros), runs along the entire English Promenade, Place Massena and makes a U-turn near the Lycé e Massena on the Promenade du Payon. Or take the free shuttle bus to Terminal 1, where you can cross the bridge over the car park to get to the city bus stop (the cost of the trip is 1.5 euros when buying from the driver during boarding or 1 euro if you buy a T10 card at the airport info center). You guessed it, for 10 trips, the cost is 10 euros). Routes №№52.59, 70 follow the English embankment.

We had the Club Inn, without breakfast, but with a shared kitchen (with individual refrigerators for everyone), where it was possible to cook, a free coffee maker with coffee, tea, milk powder, hot chocolate and tables in the lobby, where you could convenient for breakfast (and lunch and dinner, of course). Massenet Street, which housed our hotel (modern beautiful house, after restoration, with elevator and balconies), one end overlooking the promenade (between Hard-Rock Café and Casino Mediterrano), and the other on the pedestrian street rue de France, famous for its abundance of cafes , restaurants, souvenir (and not only) shops. In addition to the cafe, the proximity of the following supermarkets was also noteworthy: Carrefour (300 meters towards the airport, to the intersection with rue Meyerbeer, then 50 meters to the right), Spar, U, Nicolas (50 meters towards the center to the intersection with rue Macarani), (Go 100 meters towards the center to the intersection with rue Albert I, which gradually turns into rue Grimaldi.

There is still LiDL (prices are the most humane), but go very far on rue de France (more than 1.

5 km away), located between the intersections with the boulevards Gambetta and Francois Grosso. Monoprix fans are offered shops on Avenue Medecin (just behind the Nice Etoile towards Nice Gare) and Place Massena. In my subjective opinion, the stores of this chain do not impress with their range or prices, except that the first of them has a small cafe of South Asian cuisine with inexpensive hot dishes. If my story is read by fans of "Courcel", it is better to buy it in Marche (in other retail chains is much more expensive, and in the profile Nicolas' e is not represented at all). The largest range of everything in Carrefour are some very interesting things. For example, someone puts hand luggage in luggage only because you have to carry manicure scissors in it - in Carrefour, this tool can be purchased for only 2.50 euros.

Or who younger family members or children of friends need a non-trivial souvenir from France - one of the three accessory French symbols (along with shaving machines or lighters) - 4-color BIC ballpoint pens we have not met for 10 years 12), the price is also 2.50 E. But be careful - along with the original Made in France, saw and counterfeit Made in Tunisia. As for traditional souvenirs - you in the area of the flower market and the surrounding streets. There will definitely be no shortage of souvenir and perfume shops. Avenue Medecin with traditional C&A, H&M and Zara is suitable for traditional shopping. Although there are good variations on the surrounding streets like Cameau. If someone collects postcards sent to themselves from different parts of the world - then to you on rue de France or rue Grimaldi, because that's where the post offices are located, open until 16:00 on weekdays and until 12:00 on Saturdays.

About traditional entertainment. They can be divided into beach and sightseeing.

All days except the second (24.06) it was sunny, and in the afternoon even hot, because there is nothing to tell about the beach vacation. About excursions. As you know, Nice is known for its museums, especially fine arts. If I was not interested in the works of Henri Matisse, Marc Chagall and Naif Zhakovsky, the Museum of Fine Arts (Palais Cheret), located on the former villa of the famous Ukrainian Kochubey dynasty, was interesting to visit. I will say at once - from the center it can be reached on foot, if you reach the end of the same rue de France, and then go up the steep rue Renoir, then turn to the winding rue M. Tarnowsky. An alternative to the long walking route is bus 38, which runs on a ring route. It is very important to choose the right direction, otherwise you may find yourself in the area of Port Lympia J.

The massive building of the Musee des Beaux-Arts is located on a slope and on the side of the streets is not very photogenic, in addition, partially obscured by modern houses, but on the park side (free entrance to the park), photos are very beautiful. Entrance to the museum is 10 euros (this ticket allows you to visit a number of free museums for 24 hours, but not the Chagall Museum), no tours of the museum, no audio guide, no books about the museum. The first exhibit of the museum is a self-portrait of the Ukrainian artist Maria Bashkirtseva, the second in the sculpture hall is a sculpture of Bashkirtseva by Michel Tarnowski. There are no other works by Maria in the museum, most of her works are exhibited in the museums of Paris and St. Petersburg, in Ukraine there are only three paintings by her (in the museums of the Dnieper, Kharkiv and Sumy).

The museum's exposition is a private collection of French artist and graphic artist Jules Scheret, there are works by Scheret himself, as well as French, Dutch, English masters, a whole hall of religious painting (14-16 centuries, Italy, many unknown authors). In addition, ceramics, painted by P. Picasso, and sculptures, including O. Rodin. I was especially impressed by the huge canvas of the Chinese author, painted on silk. The canvas is so huge that it is rolled into a roll, and its image is displayed on the monitor in the hall, of course in parts.

A very interesting event took place in Nice on June 24 - the annual IronMan triathlon competition. Due to this event, bus traffic was blocked on the English embankment for one day. The competition started at about noon, and then it rained heavily. Of course, the event was not canceled.

On the one hand, there were many police and volunteers, checking bags and backpacks, but on the other hand, you could stand a meter from the "treadmill".

All participants ran in capes with the number, name and flag of the country. Mostly athletes from Western Europe, the USA, Australia and Japan fled. Congratulations "Glory to Ukraine! "There was no one: - (.

The new one (something I haven't seen in the city in the past) is the old building of the Raoul Millet Library, one tram stop from the station. It is the opposite of the modern, even avant-garde Louis Necker Library on the Promenade du Payon.

Now about the trip to Antibes and Juan-les-Pins. Logistics from Nice is almost perfect: a bus №200 Nice-Cannes runs in Nice across the English Promenade, tangentially passes the airport, and passing a few small towns (without a hint of resort, although they are 3-5 km from the coast), stops in Antibes and Juan-les-Pins.

Almost all the streets (both straight and winding) in this town sooner or later lead to the sea: -).

There are many grocery supermarkets and souvenir and beach shops. The first line of buildings by the sea - apart-hotels, built in 1970-1990, in different styles, but mostly very whimsical. The beach is sandy, many benches, every 50 m there are kiosks selling water, snacks and unrealistically expensive ice cream (3.50 E per pack, in a nearby store similar to no more than 1 E). In the sea, 100-200 meters from the shore, many luxury yachts are parked, in Nice within the city, for some reason not parked. On the contrary, on the other side of the bay you can see Cannes. Then in parallel

Guy de Maupassant (Guy de Maupassant) promenade moves to the city center, as you attract to the center begin to appear expensive restaurants, hotels, boutiques of famous brands.

I notice a 2-storey shop selling various printed products (books, newspapers, postcards, lottery tickets, etc. ), where, according to the tradition adopted during the trip, I buy a calendar for next year (this time, of course, with views of the French Riviera). Having refreshed in one knot of street cafes we have a rest in "pine garden" (so so the name Jardin de la Pinede literally translates). We saw everything interesting for ourselves in Juan-les-Pins (the high-tech Palace of Congresses is opposite), we decide to move to Antibes. On foot along Ch. Des Sables is close and not fast - more than 3 km. So we return to the square formed by the intersection of G. de Maupassant and Mr. President Wilson streets, where the local bus stop №1 (Envibus) stops. This route runs at intervals of 20 minutes, on the way to the center of Antibes (Plaza de Gaulle) only 15 minutes, fare 1.50 euros. After the beach and restaurant Juan, Antibes gives the impression of a city of a completely different level!

In the distance is the marina (bay with marinas), even further - the medieval Fort Carre, and behind - the Grimaldi Castle, which houses the Picasso Museum. In principle, not fans of abstractionism, but it would be interesting to go. Unfortunately, the museum closes early enough. We move back the same route. From General de Gaulle on Avenue Robert Soleau, the Antibes Gare SNCF and the nearby Gare Routiere are a 10-minute drive away. We got to Nice without incident, if we do not take into account the 70-minute wait for the bus №200 (according to the schedule, 20-minute intervals are declared), in which they simply could not get off due to lack of seats. Instead, the next, half-empty one came in just 10 minutes. Another interesting entertainment (beach excursion) can be considered a boat trip, which costs 16 euros. Duration 1 hour, starts at 11:00 and 15:00.

During a one-day trip to San Remo, we passed the Allianz Riviera Stadium (a new, modern building built before the 2016 European Championships, which also houses the French Sports Museum, saw large groups of schoolchildren who came there on excursions). On the last day of his previous visit to Nice, he visited the club shop of FC Nice (OSC Nice) in the heart of the city, but it was not possible to visit it. This time he will go to the store. But vintage T-shirts in the style of 1946-1950 were not for sale, but for 50 E, according to the manager, they will put any number on the T-shirt and write any name.

The return flight we had was not to say very early (09:00), but fell on a Sunday, and on Sunday some bus routes do not work at all, and some start much later. Therefore, the only option to arrive at Nice Airport (departure from Terminal 1) was by bus №98.

As we approached the airport, our bus kept filling up and filling up, and by the final stop arrived as expected full. Check-in and pre-flight procedures without surprises (except that the French customs officer also put a stamp on the page "Special marks", but on another). On the UIA flight, it was a surprise that one of the pilots was a woman. From the loudspeaker and announced: "Says the co-pilot Anastasia. " Landing in Boryspil in time, then everything is like in a kaleidoscope SkyBus - subway - trolleybus, an hour and a half and at home
