It all started when we were greeted by a disgusting sewer smell and no internet. We were checked in by a maid who spoke neither Russian nor English, only Montenegrin. But the sewer and no internet weren't the worst part. Our room was infested with columns of black ants, crawling across the pillow, the bed, the floor—everywhere! When we met our guide, Danis, we pointed this out, and he promised to help, so sincerely that we, naive as we were, believed him. Ultimately, his "help" amounted to the phrase, "We can't exterminate all the ants in Montenegro for you. " Only after our tour operator intervened, writing to every travel platform, did the ants finally get rid of them, the sewer smell subsided a bit, and the internet still wasn't working. Montenegro itself is wonderful, but without this horrible luxury hotel!
