Part 2. Gradiste Monastery and excursion to the canyons.

The sightseeing program in Montenegro was planned at home.

This is how Hradiste Monastery looks from the road

The next day we visited the closest monastery to us, Gradishte. How beautiful it looks on the mountain!

Gradiste Monastery

The Gradiste Monastery is considered one of the greatest monuments of fresco painting of the late Middle Ages in Montenegro. The first mention of the monastery dates back to the beginning of the 14th century, but it was founded much earlier.

The Church of St. Sava in the Gradiste Monastery

According to legend, the Gradishte monastery stands on the site of ancient buildings (“gradzhevina”),

hence it got its name. After the 1979 earthquake, St. The Sava was completely destroyed. . .

. . . and the church of St. Nicholas. . .

. . . and the cell body partly.

The cell building of the Hradiste Monastery

Restoration work continued from 1980 to 1993. On April 18.1993, Metropolitan Amfilohiy of Montenegro and the Seaside re-consecrated the monastery. Now the monastery complex includes three churches, a private building and a cemetery.

We were the only visitors that day. There were no monks to be seen. Candles could be placed, leaving 50 cents apiece. No one, as you know, did not check it.

when I can get all the information at home, and not from a random seller on the street.

We found a site that specializes in excursions and transfers in Montenegro: olimpus. me

The site is wonderful: each tour is detailed, the dates, departure points and the number of free places are indicated. You choose which village to pick you up from.

The site clearly, with a diagram, schedules and shows at which particular stop the bus will pick you up and at what time. There is even a photo of the stop.

Penalties and conditions for a refund are prescribed.

When ordering an excursion on the website, you will be charged an advance payment of 10%, and a seat on the bus will already be reserved for you. You will pay the rest of the amount already on the bus to the guide (you can pay in cash or by card).

After paying the advance, you will receive a voucher by mail, indicating the date, time and place where the bus will pick you up. Contact numbers are indicated,

who to call in case of emergency.

The day before the tour, a reminder is sent to the mail.

By the way, on the Olympus website, the prices for excursions are the same as on the embankment in Montenegro.

But on Olympus there is no practice of gathering multilingual groups. All tours are conducted only in Russian.

A tour of the canyons is amazing, full of natural beauties.

Moracha river canyon

First, we pass Skadar Lake, where we see real pelicans in Europe!

Tunnel along the canyon of the Moraca River

Then, the picturesque road goes along the very edge of the serpentine, over the blue and stormy river Moraca, we arrive at the Biograd Reserve. What a frozen beauty at Lake Biograd!

Biogradsko Lake

We have lunch with the most delicious Negush steak (there are two large steaks in one serving, but now such a portion seemed just right to us : )...

Negush steak (with prosciutto and cheese inside)

. . . (it must be said that Montenegrins are simply aces in cooking meat! ) and veal chorba.

Veal chorba (thick soup with beef)

The restaurant is located in a picturesque place. . .

Restaurant at the beginning of the Tara River

. . . where the Tara River is just beginning its journey, breaking down from the mountains in a stormy stream. By the way, Tara belongs to the rivers of the Black Sea plum. Combining with two more small rivers, it flows into the Danube, and then into the Black Sea.

The stormy beginning of the Tara River

One of the most beautiful places in the Tara canyon is the bend of the river.

Bend of the Tara River

At this point, it bends in the form of a huge horseshoe.

After lunch we drive to the Dzhurdzhevich Bridge - a reinforced concrete arched bridge across the Tara River.

Dzhurdzhevich Bridge

It got its name from the name of the owner of the farm, which is located nearby. The bridge was built by 1940. The 5-arch bridge has a length of 365 m, the height of the carriageway of the bridge above the river level is 172 m. At the time of completion, it was the largest automobile concrete arch bridge in Europe. During World War II, part of the bridge was purposefully blown up to stop the advance of the Italian fascists. The engineer who helped the partisans to carry out their plans, Lazar Yaukovich, was captured and shot. The monument to the engineer stands at the entrance to the bridge.

Walking across the bridge is not so easy - cars ply all the time.

Some of the tourists from our group go to the zipline attraction - in good equipment, they fly over the abyss with squeals of delight. We just walk along the bridge and admire the blue Tara from its great height.

View of the Tara River from the Dzhurdzhevich Bridge

It's a breathtaking sight.

Next we visit Durmitor National Park. . .

Durmitor National Park

. . . and its main attraction is Black Lake.

It looks completely blue, the bottom of the chalk deposits. The water in it is +14. On the shore there is a sign with the inscription "Swimming is allowed on a personal agreement. " How easy it is for us, Ukrainians, to learn the Montenegrin language! After all, it's understandable! Especially when written in Cyrillic. (By the way, there are two alphabets in Montenegro: Cyrillic and Latin) Of course, we swam against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains!

Amazing glacial water, clean, clear and cool!

Black Lake

This is just what we needed after a day on the bus. We collect water from a mountain spring with us on the road. Wonderful day! We still have time for sunset on our beach…

Sunset on Buljarica Beach

And on our balcony such a surprise was waiting for us : )
