I rested in Iberostar Lindo with my husband and daughter (4 years old) from January 21 to February 03.2014. I chose the hotel on the principle of “good beach + children's entertainment”. As a result, a great vacation turned out, mainly for the child)) But first things first.
1. The flight (13.5 hours there and 11.5 hours back) by NordWind delivered some disappointments: they didn’t even offer headphones (forget about the screens)... the boorish attitude of the flight attendants also killed. But this will be a separate review to the airline, by no means positive... From now on, I will think a million times: after all, it is better to overpay for the airline - and you will feel like a person...
Upon arrival in Cancun, there was an exciting customs clearance, because. several people from the flight were taken to separate rooms for "interrogation", we then waited for them for about an hour at the exit from the airport. There was also the notorious "red" button for checking luggage. We were lucky, but there were tourists who had to tear off the film from the suitcases and show the contents.

2. When checking in, I advise you to ask first to show the room (even better, several rooms at once), and then only agree to take the suitcases to the one you like. We took a standart room, building 51 (approximately in the middle between the beach and the theater/lobby). Everything in the room is no frills, "antique": large beds, there is an iron, ironing board; on the balcony - a dryer (by the way, the clothes dried for 2-3 days), no slippers (because I knew about this in advance, I grabbed simple "hotel" ones from Russia). There are no Russian channels on TV, but my daughter was quite satisfied with 3-4 channels with cartoons in Spanish)) On the neighboring balcony (3rd floor! ) I regularly visited coatis (nosukha), which scared us at first)) Mini-bar ( every cola and 4 bottles of beer) is updated every day, but it is replenished. To be honest, we put the beer in the cupboard so that the replenishment took place in the proper amount))
You can check in (for a surcharge, of course) in a larger room or even Iberostar Maya (with a hammock on the balcony). The cost of the surcharge, in my opinion, is 70-80 dollars per day.
3. The territory of the hotel is exactly in the middle among all five hotels of the Iberostar chain. Interesting winding pools for every taste: with a wave, and with a water bar, and with islands with a jacuzzi, and a “lazy” river. All the pools are not deep (about 1.5 m), with sea water, there are a lot of gradual entries for children from different sides, which, in principle, was appreciated by my daughter. A children's pool with water slides in the form of a ship is good, next to a playground on the sand, also with a shallow pool.
Various animals live throughout the territory of the Iberostar network: parrots, peacocks, flamingos, swans, iguanas, an unlimited number of coatis (the daughter called them by their female name - Katya), etc. Coatis, by the way, insolent - can jump on your table and snatch food in seconds . The entire Iberostar area is immersed in greenery, everything is trimmed, cleaned - in this regard, the staff does a good job. There were no midges or mosquitoes!
Once every 2 days, near the theater (where animation and different performances/shows are held every day) a trade fair unfolded where you can buy anything from magnets to large, immediately painted paintings and clothes. But I don’t recommend buying here (well, unless you really like something) - in Playa del Carmen you can buy the same thing at least 5 times cheaper.

The animation is great; albeit in Spanish / English - understandable to anyone. In the morning, the animators are already at the pool with a bunch of paraphernalia for competitions, from lunch - on the beach, in the evening - they perform on stage in the theater. Every day they hold competitions (the schedule hangs on the bulletin board) in tennis, billiards, archery, etc. Children are not forgotten - they pay no less attention than adults. All the animators are just smart) Not only the animation, but the entire staff (and all Mexicans, by the way) love tips. Everyone has a good memory: once you “don’t offend” with a tip, they will almost shake your hands at the next meeting. We, for example:
- “fed” one waiter at dinners, and always, having seen us from afar, a table with drinks was ready: tequila - for my husband, champagne - for me, milkshake - for the child;
- in the bars at the reception and in the theater, all the bartenders knew my preferences without reminders (I will make a reservation: I went for “alcohol ammunition” while my husband watched my daughter);
- once we forgot to leave a tip to the maid, so she did not replenish the mini-bar and did not even wrap towels ((
I draw your attention to the fact that wi-fi in the Iberostar Lindo in the rooms is paid, in the lobby it is FREE with a fairly good speed and without a password. Especially pleasant to me and friendly Russian tourists from Iberostar Del Mar (they have paid Internet everywhere) I always suggested where to go for a free dose of virtual news)) By the way, Iberostar tourists wear bracelets of different colors depending on their stay in a particular hotel. By the color of the bracelet, the staff judges whether it is possible to serve a tourist in this particular place. I witnessed in bars and buffets several times how tourists from Iberostar Del Mar were sent to their territory. The same applies to the children's pool-ship (like, children from Iberostar Del Mar cannot swim there), but no one really controlled the children.
From morning until late evening, you can always intercept something from food. Lots of restaurants/buffets with different opening hours. The food is mostly "American", but there are also Mexican dishes (few), which you still need to know how to eat. Be careful with sauces! they can be very spicy (Mexico, after all). A rich selection of delicious ice cream, pastries, fresh juices (in the morning), fruits. The husband was delighted with the fish: steamed, fried, boiled - any fish. Pizza - not tasty, small selection of salads and all with basil, which I don't like. . . But, in general, the choice of food is quite decent, but not particularly diverse.

We didn’t go to restaurants by appointment, because. the child set a slightly different rhythm - at that time she was interested in children's animation))
4. There are also buffet cafes on the beach where you can make hamburgers. The main thing is to watch your plate and never leave it unattended! Otherwise, first, the coatis that graze nearby will take the rolls and potatoes, and then the seagulls will grab the rest of the food. And all this in 5 seconds! It's pretty cool, by the way : )
In general, I will not be the first, but I can’t help but write: the Caribbean Sea is simply GORGEOUS! The water is soft and transparent, a comfortable wave (but sometimes it hits quite hard and drags you into the depths). The daughter on an inflatable circle was absolutely not afraid to swing on the waves, and simply squealed with delight. The beach has white and soft sand, in the sea you can see a lot of fish of different sizes, if you feed them with bread first (not like in the Red Sea, but still... ) In some places there are stones in the water (mainly in the territory of Iberostar Del Mar), but it's not annoying, because. swimming is available throughout the Iberostar promenade. Once a week, a public cooking of seafood paella is held on the beach in a huge frying pan. A very unusual Spanish dish - like pilaf, only with mussels, shrimps, etc. sea rubbish)
5. In general, we can say that we did not rest at the Iberostar Lindo hotel, but at the Iberostar resort, which consists of 5 hotels, each with its own infrastructure and its own "chips". Compared to Iberostar Del Mar/Beach and Iberostar Lindo: Lindo is good because it has slightly improved rooms; on its territory there is a theater, playgrounds and water slides; moderately planted plants / shrubs; more interesting pools; sea ​ ​ in Lindo without stones; a large territory for serving tourists in terms of food / drink. Despite all the pluses, in my opinion, the hotel deserves a solid "4+".

The tourists themselves are multinational: of course, there are many Americans (rather loud, arrogant and “blue” by 4 p. m. ), Canadians, Argentines, British, French, Italians, Lithuanians, Poles, Ukrainians and Russians are few.
Almost opposite the Lindo lobby is a shopping center with a free carousel for children. There is also some kind of adult entertainment (such as a nightclub), we did not go. We also didn't go to the nightclub at Iberostar Del Mar, because the child passed out already at 22.00, and we didn’t want to go one at a time)) Wedding ceremonies are held on the beach, then there are fun celebrations for guests near the pools. Also on the beach, it seems, there were (2 times) and night discos (the echoes were heard), then for a long time they carried insane tourists to their numbers))
6. Excursions in Mexico are VERY expensive and there is practically no discount for a child ((Because we didn’t want to overload and overwork our daughter with long excursions, we immediately abandoned Chichen Itza, extreme parks, Xcaret. We took only excursions: "Coba, Tulum" (1) - for three 400 bucks + a trip to the "Paradise Islands" (2) - for three 360 ​ ​ bucks.
(1) how you liked the tour - the only pyramid in Mexico that you can still climb; the ancient city of Tulum (in the scorching sun) on a beautiful beach (it was possible to let us swim there for such and such a price of an excursion); Maya village; flights over synods on ropes; bathing in the synod. Our daughter is tired, but Chichen Itza is much more tiring in this regard.
(2) - it sucks (purely our opinion)! For a child, you could not take money at all! We thought: we will swim in plenty on a calm sea. How! Of the 11 hours of the tour - 1.5 hours of pure swimming (well, obviously NOT on the "paradise" islands), the rest of the time - on the road by bus to the port of Cancun (where they also charged us $ 24 port dues), but on a boat (even not improved). In general, the simplest Thai Koh Talu and the Vietnamese islands made a greater impression on us.

I wanted my husband to swim with whale sharks, but it was not the season - whales come from May to August; with 2-meter turtles, the husband did not want to swim; with dolphins there was a danger that our daughter would flatly refuse to swim with them (they would have thrown money away)... In general, if you go without a child, there is where to roam in Mexico. Quite a lot of active excursions, informative, historical... just pay the money))
7. Council. Feel free to rewind your suitcases with cling film and tape. This will save you a lot of money when you fly back from Cancun (we were charged $60 for 3 bags).
