Near the Ancestral Fort of Qasr al-Hosn is the Cultural Center (Cultural Foundation) with an art gallery. We entered it from the side of the fountain, but there is also an entrance from the side of the Fort (the entrance is free). There are many paintings in the Center. Some works are eye-catching and interesting to look at, such as Jalal Lugman's 2015 collage titled “Have you booked? »
It is curious to see how local craftsmen excel with gold, for example, the work of Azza al-Kubaisi, 2018 - steel with gold wire or the work of Mohammed Mandi from gilded bronze, 1981. But, in fairness, I note that there are works simply from wood and other improvised materials. A huge “freaky” is also exhibited there (“Falling Man” - “Falling Man”, 1994) - in the pictures he is from different angles.
And there are also just “kalyaki-malaki” (by the husband’s definition), no, we, of course, do not argue about their highly artistic value - there is no comrade for the taste and color, but we definitely wouldn’t buy these works in our house.
On the 2nd floor there is a children's art studio, whose windows overlook the square with a fountain and Fort Qasr al-Hosn. It's great that in any museum in Abu Dhabi, and indeed around and everywhere, they do not forget about children and their active development. Well done! We need that too.
Of course, the Cultural Center also has its own “piano in the bushes”. In front of the art gallery there are original and surprisingly comfortable, springy chairs and tables. There is also a hall for the creativity of the visitors themselves - there, on a golden board, you can leave your signature with a marker or say a message through a special video chat for other visitors or employees of the center.
