Parliament Hill

Colline du Parlement
Canada, Ottawa
Parliament Hill is an area on the south bank of the Ottawa River that houses Canada's Parliament in downtown Ottawa, Ontario. The hill is home to a complex of Gothic-style buildings, the architectural elements of which were chosen to reflect the history of parliamentary democracy. Parliament Hill is visited by approximately three million people annually.
The development of this area into a government complex, which was the site of a military base in the 18th and early 19th centuries, began in 1859 after Queen Victoria chose Ottawa as the capital of the Province of Canada.
