Gongwangfu Palace and Park Ensemble

Gōng Wáng Fǔ, Prince Gong Palace, Prince Gong Mansion, Gong Wang Fu Museum
China, Beijing
Gongwangfu is a palace and park ensemble in the Xicheng district of Beijing. Today on its territory there is a park open for walking, as well as a museum and a theater.

The palace was built in 1776 for the famous favorite of Emperor Qianlong (Qing Dynasty) - the all-powerful Heshen. It was the largest princely palace of that time. In 1982, Gongwangfu was included in the State Cultural Heritage Register of China. The park was opened to the public in 1996. In 2005, a decision was made to turn Gongwangfu into a museum of princely palaces. The restored palace was opened as a museum on August 24, 2008.
