Ayia Napa Monastery

Ayia Napa Monastery, Agia Napa Monastery
Cyprus, Ayia Napa
In the center of Ayia Napa is an ancient monastery. According to one version, in the cave where the church is now located, the hunter found the miraculous icon of the Most Holy Theotokos. The hunter's dog was the first to notice the luminous icon and, stopping in front of it, began barking persistently, attracting the owner's attention. Having learned about the discovery of the icon, numerous believers began to visit the sacred place in the cave. In all likelihood, the icon was placed in a cave during the period of iconoclasm (7th-8th century AD) and thanks to this it was saved. In the XIV century, the cave was built on and thus the monastery church was founded.

The cave, cache and spring testify to the existence of a Christian community since Byzantine times. The name "Ayia Napa" is mentioned for the first time in 1366, but, according to available data, it was applied to the area earlier. The monastery in its present form was founded in the 15th century during the Venetian rule in Cyprus.

Now the monastery operates only as a museum. Daily services of the Greek Orthodox Church are held in a new church built 50 meters from the monastery.

in the monastery of Ayia Napa there is a very beautiful courtyard, you can safely put candles at any time. There is also a sacred spring where you can drink water. There is a plane tree growing there that is almost or strictly 500 years old. There is also a new monastery nearby. There you can wear a belt if there is a problem with childbearing. And the priest will definitely read the prayer. The atmosphere is wonderful, peaceful. Kindness itself.

This is a medieval monastery located in the center of Ayia Napa. A very small but nevertheless beautiful monastery with a good atmosphere. Here you can sit, relax from the bustle of the city. There is a spring here from which you can draw water. Well, this monastery is valuable because inside there is a miraculous icon of the Mother of God. But I didn’t even like the monastery itself more, but the fig tree that grows nearby. This old woman is already 600 years old! I love these unremarkable, atmospheric places.
