Kolossi Castle

Kolossi Castle
Cyprus, Limassol
Kolossi Castle is a massive square three-story structure built of yellowish limestone blocks. Located 10 km west of Limassol. The castle was built at the beginning of the 13th century by Guy de Lusignan, king of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. This is a fine example of medieval military architecture.

This castle is very simple. Just a cubic structure with impenetrable walls and a platform for defenders on the roof. Original: ) No decorations, bas-reliefs and modeling for you. Nothing extra. The inside of the castle is also empty. But from the roof of the castle offers a wonderful view of the surroundings. And on the adjacent territory, several outbuildings, or rather, ruins, have been preserved. This castle, never destroyed since its foundation, can tell a single story. For example, a sugar factory was located next to the castle, and at one time the Templar Order was the owner of the castle, and it was also here that the sweet Cypriot Commandaria wine variety, which I liked so much, was bred.
