A Czech Baroque church located in the central part of Prague, in a large park near the Petřín Tower. It is a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The first mention of a church building on this site dates back to 1135. Then it was a chapel in the Romanesque style. In the middle of the 18th century, the church underwent a large-scale restructuring, as a result of which it acquired its current appearance: a classic single-nave temple with a large rounded dome, with two twin towers 25 meters high on the sides. By the decree of Emperor Joseph II of 1784, the church was abolished. However, the building survived, and after 56 years it was repaired and re-consecrated. In 1995 the church received the status of a cathedral.

Church of St. Lawrence

Petrshin Hill has been considered a holy place since time immemorial. And this fact is confirmed by the Cathedral of St. Lawrence (Vavrzhynets), located directly on the site of the ancient pagan temple of worshipers of the Slavic god of thunder and lightning Perun. An ardent fighter against the pagans, Prince Boleslaw II, in order to finally destroy the pagan sanctuary, in 992 ordered to build a chapel in its place (according to the chronicles of Nut). In other chronicles the foundation of the chapel of the Visegrad Chapter in Petrshina dates back to 1135.→

One of the monuments of Petrshinsky hill

The Cathedral of St. Lawrence (Kostel svateho Vavrince na Petrine) is one of the attractions of Petrš í n Hill. It is impossible not to notice it. When you leave the funicular, you can see the towers of the cathedral. It is small and seems like a toy. The cathedral was built on the site of a pagan temple in 1135. Now we see the cathedral in the Baroque style, it was rebuilt from 1735 to 1770. She has never been inside the cathedral. The discovery about the cathedral, made while looking for a photo, in 2007 it was white, and in 2014 - no more.→
