National Monument on Vitkov

National Monument at Vitkov
Czech republic, Prague
The national monument on Vitkov is located on the hill of the same name and was erected in 1929-1933 according to the design of Jan Zazvorki. The monument is dedicated to the memory of the fallen Czech soldiers during the First World War. The monument is a bronze figure of Jan Zizka on horseback and is one of the largest equestrian sculptures in the world. A part of the sculptural complex is also the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, located at the base of the monument under a granite slab.

We came here mainly to go up to the roof of the museum and enjoy the view of the city. Climbing up the hill was not that hard, especially when you expect to see a beautiful panorama of the city. We also really liked the museum, which presents the history of the Czech Republic of the 20th century. We could easily wander without a guide through the halls of the premises, and it was still interesting. Here, near the museum, there is the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
