National Theater

Národni divadlo, National Theater
Czech republic, Prague
The National Theater is the main theater in the Czech Republic, staging dramatic performances, operas and ballets, and it is located on the embankment of the Vltava River. The building of the theater is easily recognizable - its huge starry blue dome is crowned with a golden crown. The theater was built on public donations. The first theater in its place was built in 1881 according to the design of the architect Josef Zitek in the Neo-Renaissance style, but soon its building was destroyed by fire. In the shortest possible time - already in 1883 - he was restored by Zitek's student - Josef Schulz. The main facade of the building is decorated with statues of the Muses and Apollo, and on the sides are bronze winged statues of Victory, who controls the horses.
The most famous Czech artists and sculptors decorated the interior of the theatre. The main foyer is decorated with the Golden Age triptych, and the ceiling of the auditorium is decorated with Allegories of Art. The decor is dominated by patriotic themes. The curtain is a kind of reminder of the history of the theater, it depicts scenes of the construction of the building and the people's fundraising.
Branches of the National Theater today also include the Kolovrat Theater and The Estates Theatre.
The best Czech actors play in the National Theater, and the most influential people of the country attend premieres.
