The beginning of the construction of the town hall dates back to 1348, and it is associated with the design of the Novo Mesto district, the center of which, according to the then ruler of the Czech Republic Charles IV, it was to become.

Now Novomes Town Hall is a real complex, made in the Renaissance style, which it was wrapped in the sixteenth century. Initially, the pride of Charles Square was presented as a creation of Gothic architecture.

When viewed from above, the building is a kind of trapezoid, formed by four wings, two of which, south and east, from the beginning belong to the town hall. The tower, built in 1451, crowns the image of steadfastness and eternity of the building. Its construction was completed by the project initiated by Charles IV.

Novomes Town Hall has been rebuilt and reconstructed many times.
Originally made in the Gothic style, it acquired Renaissance features with each passing century, but after being rebuilt for prison purposes in 1806, it became more reminiscent of an early classical style building. Almost a century later, during the global reconstruction of 1904-1905 under the leadership of A. Viel and K. Gilbert, town halls returned to the Renaissance look of the XVI century. Many interior elements have also been reproduced in their original form. The last significant intrusion into the architectural life of the town hall dates back to 1976-1996.

The most ancient part of Novomes Town Hall is its eastern wing, which overlooks the street. Vodichkov. The end of its construction dates back to 1377. Later the wing was rebuilt in 1569 by B. Wolmut.
On the ground floor of the south wing, hidden behind the Renaissance facade of the town hall with its characteristic high pediments and paired windows, which he generously awarded during the Renaissance perestroika of 1520-1526. a number of portals, which is now used as a wedding hall. In the next room, everyone can discover a painted ceiling dating back to 1599.

Adjacent to the building of the Novomes Town Hall is the tower, on the facade of which the late Gothic coat of arms of the New City has been preserved to this day. On its eastern side is part of an ancient chain, which in the past blocked the street to stop the flow of carts passing at night. The body of the tower contains the chapel of the Virgin Mary and St. Wenceslas, decorated with gilded wall carvings.
Originally made in the Gothic style, in the XVIII century the tower was reconstructed in the Baroque style.

On the ceiling of the chapel you can see allegorical paintings, the main motives of which are allegories of Law and Justice. The central altarpiece of the chapel is the image of the Virgin Mary from St. Benedict. The picture is complemented by two sculptural images of saints made of wood, as well as the image of St. George. Those wishing to visit the gallery of the tower will have to go up the stairs to 221 steps.
