The creation of the fountain is connected with the life of Erfurt in the second half of the 19th century. Architect Heinrich St? ckhardt allegorically showed two main directions for the development of the city's economy - gardening and industry. For the theme of gardening, the Roman goddess Flora is used, holding out a rose to passers-by; for industry - a powerful male figure with a hammer. The fountain was installed in 1890.
