Tourists who come to Copenhagen must see the symbol of not only this city but the whole of Denmark - the statue of the Little Mermaid. This statue is dedicated to the heroine of the world-famous fairy tale of the same name by the famous Danish storyteller H. -K. Andersen. In August 2013, the monument turned 100 years old. The only negative is that when you don't approach it, it is surrounded by hundreds of tourists.

The creation of the well-known sculpture of the Little Mermaid - the character of Andersen's popular fairy tale - was commissioned by Edward Eriksen from Carl Jacobsen, the son of the founder of the Carlsberg beer production, Jacob Jacobsen. The sculptor was commissioned to embody in bronze not some abstract, but a very specific image of the leading lady in the ballet of the same name based on a fairy tale - Ellen Price, who was fascinated by Carl Jacobsen. The ballerina did not want to pose naked, so the sculptor depicted only her head, and created the figure of the Little Mermaid under the impression of the well-known body of his own wife.

The Little Mermaid is one of the most photographed women in the world! Back in 1909, Carl Jacobsen (the founder of the Carlsberg brewery) saw a production of the fairy tale of the same name performed by the Royal Danish Ballet and, being strongly impressed, decided to give the city a sculpture of the Little Mermaid, which immediately turned into a symbol of Copenhagen. During my visit, the Little Mermaid went on a "business trip" to participate in the international exhibition World Expo. And in the place of her usual location, there was a screen with a live broadcast from Shanghai.

Small sculpture, one of the many sculptures located in the park nearby. I don't know why she's so famous, like nothing special. But I put "ten" because if you don't take a picture against its background, then no one will believe that you were in Denmark : ).
