The museum is located in Cairo and is the world's largest repository of ancient Egyptian art. Its collection includes about 120 thousand exhibits from all historical periods of ancient Egypt. The building of the museum, located in the city center on Tahrir Square, was built in 1900 in the neoclassical style by the French architect Marcel Dunon. The opening of the museum took place in 1902.

150 thousand exhibits, many very well preserved. You can take pictures and touch a lot, but not the gold of Cheops, you can’t do it there. There is very little time if the museum is included in the standard tour of Cairo. In 40 minutes they will rattle a 4.000-year history to you, and then they will be offended that you did not remember well. True, then they give time to walk around themselves, you can read the signs (English), but also not for long.

Very interesting museum, everything impressed me. Unfortunately, in the plan of a general excursion to Cairo, very little time is allocated to the museum. The museum is quite large, but we passed very little. I would love to come back and see more. Unfortunately, even the photo was not left inside, I don’t know how it is now, in 2015 it was forbidden to take pictures. A lot of gold, sarcophagi, ancient clothes, dishes.

I advise you to plan a trip after visiting Luxor and the Valley of the Kings, so to speak, we were on the ground, now we are watching the originals. Prepare yourself, and listen to the guide, what he does not show, demand. I remember the huge statues of Amenophis 3 and his wife (as she gently hugs him) and, of course, the treasury of Tutankhamun. And even at that moment, when I was in the hall of mummies, museum workers unfolded the mummy and took some kind of sample, so unexpectedly I had a chance to see it up close without glass and bandages, creepy.
