Valley of the Kings

Valley of the Pharaohs, Valley of the Kings
Egypt, Luxor
The Valley of the Kings is a place where tombs for Egyptian pharaohs and noble officials were built during the New Kingdom period (XVI-XI centuries BC). There are 63 tombs in total, including Thutmose III, Amenhotep II, Tutankhamun and the four Ramses, but archaeological excavations are still ongoing. The walls of the tombs are inscribed with mortuary religious texts such as the Amduat, the Book of Gates, the Book of Caves, and the Litany of Ra. In 1979, the Valley of the Kings was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Tombs in the Valley of the Queens. I must say right away that there are no mummies here, because all the mummies “left” to Cairo. There are pictures on the walls. In general, the tombs did not impress at all. Photos inside are prohibited. Local workers come up with all sorts of funny tricks to cheat tourists for a dollar.

It fascinates everything ...Thoughts overcome - how much sand do you need to dig up? ! How many years and labor does it take to dig up all this?! How did they exalt the pharaohs at that time in order to bury so much wealth with them? ! Thanks to the very attentive guide Atamama (forgive me if I made a mistake in the correct spelling) he told and showed everything very beautifully. We were lucky with the weather, in the sun plus 30, not very hot for a place among the desert, sandy mountains. Security everywhere, not many tourists.

This is one of the hottest places - in the spring our camera broke due to the heat, but we managed to shoot something. The rest was taken with postcards that are sold as souvenirs. And it should be noted that many people think that the Valley of the Queens is more interesting and beautiful, but the Valley of the Kings is more popular (this can be seen on postcards)! You will not be able to see all the tombs, there are a lot of them, but a few will be enough. Inside the crypts is not just hot and stuffy, but also humid, keep this in mind.

Probably there will not be a person who would not have heard of the valley of the dead. Burial place of Egyptian pharaohs. Until now, the valley seems like a terrible gorge, lost among the bare rocks, and only the scorching sun looks at you with an indifferent look. Despite the fact that the tombs have long been plundered, and you will find exhibits from this valley in many museums around the world, it’s still worth seeing. The only thing I want to draw your attention to when you negotiate for an excursion, specify where you will be taken to the valley of the kings or the valley of the queens.
