Reef Thomas

Thomas Reef
Egypt, Sharm el-Sheikh
Thomas Reef is the smallest coral reef in the Strait of Tiran and is very popular with divers and snorkellers. There are strong undercurrents here, so diving here is considered difficult for beginners, mainly experienced scuba divers dive here. The main route runs along the reef slopes, which go to a depth of more than 40 meters. In the southern part of this reef massif lies a deep canyon, the descent into which passes through a narrow crevice. Only technically trained divers are allowed to swim in the canyon, because this requires special equipment, caution, considerable experience and an oxygen-nitrogen mixture to overcome the consequences of great depths. The top of the reef is home to soft and hard corals, and on its sandy plateau you can occasionally spot sleeping sharks. On Thomas Reef, you can see almost all the representatives of the marine life of the Strait of Tiran - sea turtles, reef sharks, groupers, Napoleon fish, moray eels, trevally and many other fish.
