The University of San Ildefonso in Alcalá de Henares was founded by Cardinal Jimé nez de Cisneros in 1496 or 1499. This ancient university, rich in traditions, is notable for the fact that the first university campus in history was originally created under it by its founder. Alumni include Lope de Vega and other famous personalities. The tomb of the great cardinal was nearby - in the church of the College of San Ildefonso, but later moved to Madrid.→
