The Rambla

The Ramblas, The Rambles, La Rambla
Spain, Barcelona
The Rambla is a pedestrian street in the center of Barcelona. The border between the Gothic quarter and the Raval quarter. It runs from Plaça Catalunya to Piazza Portal de la Pau. The length is 1.2 km.

The Rambla actually consists of 5 separate boulevards, passing into each other: the Rambla Canaletes, the Rambla of the Teachings, the Rambla of Flowers, the Rambla of the Capuchins and the Rambla of St. Monica. Sometimes the so-called Marine Rambla is also referred to as the Rambla.

Once I passed the Rambla dozens of times, and I was sure that Barcelona without it is simply hard to imagine! All this movement, partying, live sculptures, street musicians, just the atmosphere of an ongoing holiday! And there are plenty of attractions within walking distance. But now, this time I came with my family, and we managed almost without the Rambla ...That is, we walked, but on the way somewhere (Gothic Quarter, Palau Gü ell). We even had lunch on the Rambla (oh, a dream come true from the time of running along the Rambla with twenty dollars in your pocket! ).

Walking along Pla de l'Os, be sure to look under your feet! Here, right on the sidewalk, the famous mosaic of Joan Miro (Joan Miro's Pla de l'Os mosaic) is laid out. It is no coincidence that this is where the artist decided to place his mosaic. This part of the boulevard is located near the street where he was born. Joan Miro wanted people to walk on the mosaic, it was important for him that it gradually wear out and grow old. In 2006, the city authorities carried out a large-scale restoration of the work of the master, only one tile remained intact - the one that Joan Miro personally signed.

The Rambla Boulevard was formed artificially - the bed of the river flowing here was covered up, and a pedestrian zone more than a kilometer long appeared. By the way, in translation from the Catalan “Rambla” means “river bank”. More than others, I liked the Sea Rambla (Rambla del Mar) - this is the "youngest" Rambla, built for the 1992 Olympic Games. And yes, you will return to this main tourist and walking promenade of the city again and again. Because some of the city's attractions are located within walking distance from the Rambla + there is a major transport interchange right there + it's just a pleasant place to walk, although always crowded.

It is worth walking along the famous boulevard, if only because it is the most touristy part of the city with its own color, living statues, numerous shops, crowds of tourists, onlookers and local pickpockets. It is here that it is advised to be most careful, as this is a place where a large number of people gather. Personally, I was most impressed by the living statues. I have seen this many times before, but in such numbers - for the first time. The central street of the city should be on your list for sure!.
