Plaza Mayor is the central square of Madrid. It was founded at the beginning of the 17th century and has changed its name more than once throughout its history. The square has a rectangular shape and is surrounded by classical historical buildings, built mainly in the Baroque style. In the center of the Plaza Mayor stands the equestrian statue of King Philip III.
