The Plaza de Oriente is located in the western part of the city. It got its name, East Square, because it is located to the east of the Royal Palace. The square in the shape of a horseshoe pleases visitors with an abundance of trees and bright flowers, as well as numerous statues. It also houses the Royal Theatre and the old Encarnacion Convent.
