Soler Railway

Ferrocarril de Sóller, Ferrocarril de Soler
Spain, Majorca
Soler is an intercity railway and is also the name of the company that supplies electricity to the 914 mm track between the cities of Soler and Palma on the island of Mallorca. Trains stop at various small towns such as Bunyola and Son Sardina. The historic electric train starts north from the capital through the plains, meandering between the mountains, passing 13 tunnels of the Sera de Tramuntana, and finally stops at the large railway station of the northern city of Soler.

Railroad traffic began in 1911 thanks to income from the lemon and orange trade, which flourished at that time. Now the famous train is not only a means of transportation between the two main cities of Mallorca, but is also an attraction in itself.

A very interesting mode of transport. Departing from the Soller station, you can see the panorama of the city, first from one side of the train, and after the tunnel - from the other. For an excursion, I recommend choosing a weekday, since this railway is operational and is actively used by Majorcans on weekends to travel to friends and relatives.

Before the trip, I read reviews where the train to Soler was called a scam for tourists by many. Therefore, the train trip was not planned at all. But how many people - so many opinions. The circumstances were such that on the way back from the port of Soler, the authentic tram and train became the best option for us. Ticket price per person - tram + train = 25 euros one way. If you take round trip tickets, it will be cheaper. The train goes pretty fast. Arrives in Palma in about an hour. There are many tunnels on the route (if you go by car or bus, you will have to go around the mountains and drive along the serpentine, on which we managed to get stuck in a traffic jam for 30 minutes).
