Tarracon is an ancient city in Spain on the Mediterranean coast (now Tarragona). Was in 218 BC. e. conquered by the Romans and became the capital of the Roman province of Near Spain.

After the successful completion of the Cantabrian War, Octavian Augustus wintered in Tarracona, who built numerous buildings in the city in honor of the victory. The ruins of Roman structures were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in Spain in 2000.

The ruins include various objects located in different parts of the city: the Roman walls, the provincial forum, the Roman theater, the amphitheater, the basilica and church, early Christian cemeteries, an aqueduct, a triumphal arch and more.

Lovers of Roman ruins
The city has a separate tourist route called "Ruta romana", which will take you to the main sites of the ancient city of Tarraco. Be sure to consider the fact that Roman buildings are not in one place, they are widely scattered throughout modern Tarragona. Therefore, a walk along the "Roman route" will take you a lot of time. A complex ticket for viewing all the Roman artifacts of Tarragona + the Archaeological Museum costs 12 euros. Monday is a day off.→
