Republic Square

Place de la Republique
France, Arles
Republic Square is located in the city center on the site of the former Roman forum. It acquired its modern look in the 17th century, when the Town Hall building was built here. Another attraction is the Roman obelisk. The square is also one of the centers of city life; it is here that a traditional event takes place every three years - the election of the "Queen of Arles".

What to look for in Republic Square? - City Hall building with a facade of the 17th century and the Clock Tower, on which there is a statue of the god Mars (the locals called him "the bronze man"); - An obelisk dating from the 4th century; - Cathedral and cloister of St. Trophime (St-Trophime et son cloitre). The relics of Saint Trofim are kept here.
