Cavaillon Cathedral

Cathédrale Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Véran de Cavaillon, Saint-Veran Cathedral
France, Cavaillon
Cavaillon Cathedral was consecrated in 1251. The western Romanesque façade has survived from an earlier building from the 11th century. The cathedral is named after Saint Veran, who was bishop of Cavaillon for 30 years. One of the chapels is also dedicated to him. The interior of the cathedral contains many relics from different times, among which paintings by Nicolas and Pierre Mignard, artists of the 17th century, should be highlighted.

On the Place Joseph d'Arbaud is the former Cathedral of Cavaillon, named after the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Veran of Cavaillon. In the 6th century, this place was the episcopal residence. The current building and decor date from the 13th century. Before the French Revolution, the temple was the cathedral of the diocese of Cavaillon. Then the diocese of Cavaillon was abolished and annexed to the diocese of Avignon. Free admission.
