Palace of Benedict

Benedictine Palace, Palais Bénédictine
France, Fecamp
Saint Benedict, as the patriarch of the monks of Western Europe, provided that his spiritual sons should devote themselves to piety and the study of the world. The abbeys, as centers of learning, were both strongholds of prayer and centers of research. Fécamp Abbey is a perfect example. The Benedictine monks at Fécamp were interested in distillation methods and plant research.
It was here in 1510 that the monk Dom Bernardo Vincelli, originally from Venice, created a secret elixir, essentially an alcoholic herbal liqueur, the recipe of which was later lost for almost three hundred years.
In 1863, Alexander Le Grand, a merchant and collector of religious art, discovered a recipe for this elixir in his collection. Intrigued by the discovery, he successfully recreated the mysterious liqueur, which he named Benedictine.
Alexandre Le Grand organized its industrial production and with the proceeds from it he built the magnificent "Palace of Benedictine" in Fécamp. Now there is a distillery in which the famous liquor is prepared, a collection of religious works by Le Grand and a gallery of modern art.

The palace is located in the center of Fé camp. The luxurious building impresses everyone. The distillery-palace was built in Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance styles for Alexandre Le Grand, an entrepreneur who recreated an alcoholic herbal liqueur created by a Benedictine monk. The famous liqueur is produced only in this place and has been exported all over the world for over 100 years. The Benedictine Palace consists of three zones: the distillery, which produces the famous liquor; Le Grand's collection of religious works from the 15th and 16th centuries, which is exhibited in the same way as at the end of the 19th century; gallery of modern art.
