Reims Cathedral is a majestic 138-meter Catholic cathedral. It is the hallmark of Reims, a city with 2500 years of history. The cathedral was built in the XIII-XIV centuries and is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The famous sculptural composition "The Meeting of Mary and Elizabeth" is located on the western portal, and there is also another famous sculpture - "Smiling Angel". Reims Cathedral served as the coronation site for French monarchs for many centuries.

Coronation site of French kings
This attraction does not need advertising. The cathedral is very beautiful, there are many unique stained-glass windows that look very cool in sunny weather. Pay attention to the stained-glass windows of champagne - the whole process of making this wonderful drink is presented: it is located above the southern entrance. And don't miss the Chagall stained glass windows behind the altar. All the coronations of French kings until the 19th century were held in this Cathedral, except for Napoleon. The cathedral is rich in magnificent sculptures, there are a lot of them, but the most memorable is the Smiling Angel, or as it is called the Reims Smile.→

Favorite of the French kings
Even during the campaigns of Julius Caesar, Reims became an important strategic center of the Gallo-Roman Champagne and the capital of the province. In the 5th century, on the site of the collapsed baths, the Basilica of Our Lady and the baptistery were built, to which King Clovis I was baptized. And in 816, Louis the Pious was crowned for the first time in Reims. And since then, almost all French monarchs have been anointed king in this cathedral. Here in 1051, King Henry I married Anna Yaroslavna, the daughter of Yaroslav the Wise, Prince of Kyiv.→
