This fort can only be reached at low tide, so the question arises "how was it built if the tides are the highest here? " Historians answer us that they began to build it on the Ile rock in 1689. The fort was part of the Saint-Malo defense system, which included several other forts on the islands around this port. The project was developed by the famous fortifier Sebastian le Pré tre de Vauban, and the local architect Simeon de Garanzho directly supervised the construction. During its existence, the fort changed its name four times. Initially, it was Royal, during the years of the revolution it became simply Ile, under Napoleon it became Imperial, and after the establishment of the republic it turned into National.
The entrance is paid, but there is nothing special to pay for, only for a touch of history and a beautiful view of the fortress of Saint-Malo.
