The library was built in the 2nd century AD by the Roman emperor Hadrian. It is one of the most massive buildings in Athens. During the Roman era, Greece experienced a decline in literacy and culture, so Hadrian, who respected and loved Hellas, decided to restore historical justice. The layout of the complex resembles the Roman agora, but is much better preserved. Initially, the library building was a large rectangle measuring 122 by 82 meters. Today, only the western side and the remains of other parts have survived.→
